As the novel coronavirus has been spreading rapidly around the world, a growing number of industrialists, individuals, film stars, sportspersons, religious places, and so on in India have decided to donate a hefty amount to help the medical workers to fight against the deadly Covid-19 pandemic in India.

In the time of crisis, hospitals need essential equipment to treat patients. Special attention is also required for the daily wagers, and the downtrodden of our country as their source of income has closed amid lockdown across the country. With this regard, the Indian Railways have donated Rs 151 Cr and the Defence Ministry has also pledged a Rs 500 Cr to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country. 

In this need of the hour, here is how the biggies of India are coming together to fight this battle against coronavirus.  

Contribution by Industrialists and Celebrities to Battle Covid-19:

Diageo India

The demand for sanitisers has increased in the wake of Covid-19, so Diageo India has decided to produce around 3,00,000 litres of bulk hand sanitisers across 15 of its manufacturing units in the country to cope with the demand of the product. The company also decided to help the hospitality sector with Rs 3 crore as health insurance cover for bartenders. Besides this, it has also planned to donate 1,50,000 masks to five state public departments.

TATA

The Tata Trusts has pledged to donate a sum of INR 500 Cr to help the government in the fight against coronavirus. Tata Sons have also pledged an additional Rs 1,500 Cr to fight coronavirus.

Reliance Industries

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani has also pledged to support the people and government in fighting the novel coronavirus crisis. RIL donated Rs 5 crore to Maharashtra’s chief minister’s relief fund along with this; the company is gearing up to produce face masks and other safety suits in bulk for the safety of the workers of the country. Ambani has also announced to set up a 100-bed centre at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai. Besides this, a fully-equipped isolation facility in Lodhivali, Maharashtra for modern coronavirus patients has also been created.

Reliance Foundation is set to arrange free meals to people in several cities in partnership with NGOs during the crisis arising due to coronavirus. Reliance has also announced to fill the fuel tank for free for all the emergency service vehicles in the country.

Vedanta’s Anil Aggarwal donates Rs 100 crore

Vedanta Resources Limited CEO Anil Agarwal also decide to donate Rs 100 crore to fight the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the nation.

Paytm founder not behind

Meanwhile, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma also committed that the company is going to provide Rs 5 crore for the development of medical solutions to fight against the Covid-19 crisis across the country.

Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai

Major car manufacturers Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai will be making their own set of contributions to the country, by helping out in making ventilators and providing them additional testing kits respectively.

M&M to make ventilators

One more noted firm in motor vehicle Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is set to make ventilators for Covid-19 patients. Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the group, also announced that Mahindra Holidays resorts would be offered to the government as temporary care facilities.

Leading software company Icertis, along with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has planned to donate Rs 25 lakh to overcome the life-threatening Covid-19 in the country.

Film stars contribution

Noted film actor of Telugu film Nitin Reddy handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Telangana. Icon of Tamil film industry Rajinikanth has decided to contribute Rs 50 lakh for the well being of daily wage workers of the South Indian film industry in the wake of complete shutdown due to coronavirus. Tollywood actors Pawan Kalyan and Prabhas have donated INR 2 Cr and INR 5 Cr to fight coronavirus.  

Cine Stare Hrithik Roshan and comic TV host Kapil Sharma have pledged to funds as well as for medical supplies in the fight against modern coronavirus. Actor Akshay Kumar has also pledged to donate Rs 25 Cr.

Designer contributes 1.5 crore

Designer Anita Dongre has shown generosity as she pledged to contribute Rs 1.5 crore to support small vendors and self-employed artisans.

People from the entertainment industry such as Karan Johar, Nitesh Tiwari, Aanand L Rai, Ayushmann Khurrana, Taapsee Pannu, Sonam Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza among others pledged to support the daily wagers who have been severely affected amid lockdown in the wake of Covid-19.

Sports stars’ contribution

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Friday contributed Rs 50 lakh to fight against COVID-19 pandemic. The two Pathan brothers Irfan and Yusuf – distributed 4,000 face masks to Baroda police and health department while former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, donated Rs 1 lakh. Sourav Ganguly offered to provide rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the poor during the battle against COVID-19.

Sportspersons from other disciplines like wrestler Bajrang Punia and sprinter Hima Das and other prominent sports personalities donated their salaries in the battle against dreaded Covid-19. Cricketer Suresh Raina has also pledged Rs 52 Lakh to fight coronavirus in the country. 

Religious places’ contribution

The Mahavir Mandir Trust has donated Rs 1 crore in the Chief minister’s relief fund in Patna to strengthen the government’s hand in providing food to the poor people amid lockdown in the wake of Covid-19. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will initially distribute 10,000 masks free in Delhi amid Covid-19. Shirdi Temple has also donated over INR 50 Cr. 

Apart from the name mentioned above, many other companies and individuals are contributing a lot to provide help to the people of all walks of life. Government employees and teachers of Telangana have given a day’s basic salary to the CM Welfare Fund. Everyone should respect their social gestures with a high note.
