Overview of the Golden Line Expansion
The 23.622 km corridor from Aerocity to Tughlakabad is known as the Golden Line (Line-10) and comprises 15 stations, including four elevated stations and 11 underground stations. It is part of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) 's 112.42 km Phase IV expansion project.Significance of the Expansion
The Golden Line extension will improve connectivity to several areas of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Its goal is to ease traffic congestion, reduce vehicular pollution, and offer a reliable public transport alternative. The expansion will facilitate the metro, making it a much faster and cost-effective travel mode to resume once these public transport systems start to replace personal vehicular transport, which will be essential for the environment.Key Corridors Under Phase IV Expansion
The Phase IV expansion consists of several important corridors aimed at better connectivity and decreasing transit time across the city:Magenta Line Extension (RK Ashram Marg to Krishna Park Extension)

Advances in Technology and Infrastructure
Phase IV Expansion is not just about new routes, it’s about the integration of advanced technologies to elevate the commuter experience:- Driverless Operations: The new lines will use the latest driverless train technology, which aligns with existing Magenta and Pink Line services.
- Enhanced Signalling System: The upgrade to Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) will allow for increased train schedules, which will mean reduced wait times and further efficiency in service.
- Eco-Friendly Construction: The expansion has been designed to meet green building standards, including installing solar panels at stations and energy-efficient lighting and ventilation systems.
Impact on Commuters and the City
The expansion is expected to offer a variety of advantages:- Shortened Travel Time: New corridors will greatly decrease travel times, enabling commuters to arrive at their destination more quickly.
- Improved Accessibility: Previously neglected regions will become a part of the metro network, granting access to job opportunities, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
- Economic Development: Improved transport facilities should lead to economic growth, such as real estate expansion, boosted business chances, and employment.
Construction Milestones and Challenges
The DMRC has made remarkable progress in the Golden Line construction:- Tunnelling Achievements: A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) completed the tunnelling of the 1,550-metre-long tunnel between the Kishangarh & Vasant Kunj stations. This first is important for the Tughlakabad Aerocity corridor.
- Deep Tunnel Construction: The underground section from Chhatarpur Mandir to IGNOU Station was dug at an average depth of about 26 meters, classifying it among the deepest tunnels of Delhi Metro.
