Know About The Umang Application: Minimum Government And Maximum Governance

Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance is referred to as UMANG. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a smartphone application to give residents secure connectivity to several government facilities on one platform.

It is a crucial part of the government’s Digital India project, which aims to provide all hitherto offline conventional government programs online, round-the-clock, via a single integrated app. Similar to UMANG, the Indian government has introduced several different programmes or services to improve the financial and social well-being of its population.

On November 23, 2017, UMANG was introduced to make it simple to utilise the central and state governments’ primary services, Municipal Bodies, Agencies, and other public utilities from private enterprises. Thanks to a unified strategy, the country’s people may access a variety of government services by downloading just one smartphone application.

Critical details about UMANG

A new smartphone software called UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, enables users to receive government operations from a single platform.

With a greater objective of making the government available to our residents on their mobile phones, it wants to put 162 government functions onto a single mobile app. The app now offers Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), among many other features.

As per official papers, the UMANG app offers utility payments in addition to more than 1,200 services from different government agencies in states and at the Center. Citizens may use the application to utilise Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) facilities, register for a new permanent account number (PAN), and enrol for the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana if they’re seeking work.

It offers on-demand expansion and accommodates 13 Indian languages. The State Government of Odisha offered nine online state transportation services via the Umang App. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik introduced the programme as part of his attempts to digitise transportation services. Additionally, the government of Odisha was the first to launch the UMANG App’s learner licence applications.

The UMANG app’s concept was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry of Electronics (MeitY) is the organisation in charge of its creation, and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) will spearhead mobile governance in India. All Indian residents have access to a unified platform through UMANG for all types of citizen operations and pan-Indian e-government operations from National to Local governments.

Features of the application

By making it simple for citizens to access a wide range of Indian government services, including banking, schooling, accommodation, energy, agribusiness, transportation, utility, jobs, and vocations, UMANG helps citizens live more comfortably.

UMANG was developed to make Indian inhabitants’ lives more convenient. The app’s services may be readily accessible on basic cell phones, smartphones, computers, laptops, and pads via various channels, including online and mobile applications, IVR, and Text messaging. It offers seamless integration with well-known customer-focused products like Digilocker, Aadhaar, and others. It was introduced to modernise how Indian citizens access government services, using the rising popularity of smartphones and the internet.
