5. Amitav Ghosh
He is a prolific Indian writer who with his eloquent writing skills has won 54th Jnanpith award in the year 2018. He is known for his English fiction books, which enjoy worldwide fame. The major themes in his works are related to contemporary issues. Some of his prominent novels include The Circle of Reason, The Calcutta Chromosome, The Shadow Lines, Sea of Poppies and The Hungry Tide. Interestingly, The Shadow Lines which was published in 1988, got him the honour of Sahitya Akademi Award. Meanwhile, his recent non-fiction includes The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable. This piece of literature raises the issues related to climate change and ponders on the fact why modern literature doesn’t talk about such issues.
