Ok, Priya Prakash is not exactly (or even remotely) ultra-glamorous, but did she drive the whole Internet crazy in a time window of just 2 days. The wink, the eyebrow dance, a very youthful feminine smile and a standing confidence throughout, sure was refreshing! Agreeable to watch, nice as a time-killing water cooler chit-chat, yes. But was this really something that could storm the Internet, that too by staggering numbers?
Was that the few who liked it showed it to friends, then those friends did the same with their friends and effect just kept on multiplying and we ended up with a massive Internet sensation? Since, we live in the age of FB, IG, and Whatsapp, we know anything can catch fire with social media sharing, if done the right way. So, was it this that happened or something else? We’ll never know now. Let’s add it right below the Bermuda-triangle mystery in the list of obscure things.
Moving on, the other person on the list is equally, if not more, devastatingly unbelievable. Sapna Chaudhary, a native of Haryana, came a couple of years ago to Delhi to make ends meet. And, how does she do that? Well, she dances. But, after watching her Youtube videos, you’ll be surprised, to say the least. Not that she is any of an exceptional dancer, but it’s the popularity that surrounds it, leaves one scratching head.
Clad in salwaar kameez (with dupatta), Sapna performs the most ordinary dance moves. You’ll have to continually shush that rising inner voice saying ‘Hey, I can do that too’. But, the reality is that you can’t. Can you really get 10-20 million views making the most elementary dance moves? A bit of praise from family and friends, yes, but that’s the end of it. You don’t become a sensation and certainly not appear in the list of most ‘googled’ personality of the year. So, you got to admire her, not scratch your head and most importantly, not judge her at all. The girl’s done hard work for each and every one of those simplistic moves. And, she also throws in occasional pelvic thrust moves and bust-shaking steps, all while being fully-attired in the traditional Indian dress. Isn’t she something! There are tents and a stage on which she mesmerises the crowd, who come in droves to see her. That, of course, is far from the glam and glitz of the duly choreographed standard Bollywood item numbers. But, then again, people love what they love. There’s no stopping of that. Head and heart don’t always go together. So, there’s that. And, did we mention she was also on Bigg Boss 11 which came late in 2017. And, tell you what, she was on the most searched celebrity in 2017 as well! She is really something. Convinced.
