About Movie Madaari
As the third directorial venture of Nishikant Kamat after ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Rocky Handsome’, Madaaari is based on Mumbai Metro bridge collapse which took place in suburban Marol in 2012. A man named Nirmal loses everything he has in this man-made disaster and during his journey of seeking answers asking for accountability of the massacre, he is directed to a deadly path which he follows for taking his revenge. Portraying the character of Nirmal on screen is the super talented actor, Irrfan Khan. Madaari is a saga of emotions, perfectly presented in a thriller genre.
Plot
Madaari is an excellent portrayal of a common man’s fight against corruption. In-line with the theme of movies like Nayak, A Wednesday and Rang De Basanti, Madaari also comes with a message. In the movie, Irrfan Khan (playing the character of Nirmal Kumar) kidnaps the Home Minister Prashant Goswami’s (played by Tushar Dalvi) only son, Rohan Goswami (played by Vishesh Bansal). Completely shaken by Rohan’s kidnapping, Prashant chooses Nachiket Verma (played by Jimmy Shergill) for the job of bringing back his son. Expecting a ransom in the form of cash, Prashant Goswami gets shell shocked after listening to the strange demand of the kidnapper Nirmal Kumar. What was this unusual demand of Nirmal? Did Nirmal keep Rohan safe in his custody? Was Prashant able to get back his son? The answers to all these questions form the story of Madaari.
Performances
Irrfan Khan is the only saving grace of Madaari. Hats off to his strong acting skills. He has perfectly portrayed the anguish of a parent who has lost his son to a freak accident. His pain is raw, real and will touch the hearts of viewers instantly. His eyes truly convey a thousand emotions.
Next is Tushar Dalvi, who, in the role of Prashant Goswami, the Home Minister hasn’t been able to deliver and his role seems to be unrealistic. On the contrary, in the role of a stern cop Nachiket Verma, Jimmy Shergill has undoubtedly done a decent job. Vishesh Bansal, the child actor playing the role of Rohan Goswami hasn’t been hesitant in front of the camera and has delivered a remarkable performance. Other supporting actors have also done justice to their respective roles in the flick.
Madaari Music
As opposed to the four songs in ‘Drishyam’ and five in ‘Rocky Handsome’, director Nishikant Kamat has restricted the music album of Madaari to merely two tracks. The lyrics of both the songs have been penned by Irshad Kamil and the music for the tracks has been composed by different music directors.
The first track named “Dama Dama Dam” is a satirical number and has been beautifully sung by current singing sensation, Vishal Dadlani and composed by talented music composer, Vishal Bhardwaj. The excellent tune of this song goes well with the theme of Madaari. It is indeed an excellent, enjoyable song that will remain in the minds of people for a long time.
The second track in Madaari is “Masoom Sa”, sung by the very energetic Sukhwinder Singh. As a song to hear on loop, “Masoon Sa” has its music composed by duo Sunny-Inder Bawra, who’ve impressed music lovers by composing music for the track named “Rehnuma” in Rocky Handsome. The song starts off with a low-pitched humming sound, adding depth into the movie scene. An emotional number, “Masoon Sa” has a melancholic music and will definitely turn out to be the most haunting sad songs of the year.
A superb performance by the lead actor is the USP of Madaari. Hard-hitting dialogues and the background score go well with the emotional sequences in the movie.
What’s Bad?
Director Nishikant Kamat’s effort of tackling two plots at one time hasn’t been impressive. The movie comprises scenes which have been aimlessly dragged and tend to turn off the audiences.
Verdict
Watch Madaari if you’re a fan of Irrfan Khan. The movie’s honest intentions would keep you gripped from beginning until the end.
