Movies have a magical power of metamorphosing you to a fantasy world, far away from the harsh realities of life. Jean-Luc Godard once said that “Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world”. Whether a fraud or just a relaxing therapy, the truth is, we love watching movies! Even though a thousand movies are produced every year in Bollywood, only a few of them rise up to become the evergreen classics. These are those films which, even if you watch a hundred times, will always seem as fresh as a daisy! Though it is quite impossible to choose a few from a stupendous pool of classics, I still managed to pick the top ten which, according to me, are the diamonds of the Indian Cinema! So here you go-
1. Sholay (1975)
This is the undisputed “National Film of India”! You ought to have watched Sholay at least once in a lifetime if you are a true Indian!
2. Mughal-e-Azam (1960)
An epic love story, this film not only won many accolades for its outstanding performance but also broke box-office records, holding the distinction for 15 years.
3. Mother India (1957)
It was the most expensive film of that time. India is largely an agragarian economy and this film is like a tribute to those farmers who bless us with the food to eat.
4. Guide (1965)
This is one masterpiece of the Indian Cinema. It was internationally acclaimed as one of the best classics and was thus screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007.
5. Anand (1971)
It teaches you how to live life with open arms. Anand is Superstar Rajesh Khanna’s best film and one of those dramas which have a deep effect on your life!
6. Dilwale Dulhaniya Lejayenge (1995)
The longest running film in the history of bollywood, DDLJ is by far the most romantic film of all times! Words fall short if you try to describe the undaunted success of this film!
7. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
This film deems as the epic comedy film of the 90s era. The funny punch-lines and super-hilarious characters of this movie are reminisced till date.
8. Lagaan (2001)
A classic entertainer in all forms, Lagaan is one such period film that keeps you engaged no matter how many times you watch it! An unconventional theme in the backdrop of the colonial era brings it even more close to the heart.
9. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)
A number of movies have been made on the theme of friendship but this alone stand as the crème de la crème. The free-spirited youngsters of the nation swear by this one!
10. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
This is a recent one yet it has been widely acknowledged as a must watch film! If you haven’t realized the value of every moment, this film is a must watch for you!
