Years after making films that have woven fantasies which are far away from reality, Yash Raj has finally realized that these picture-perfect stories have no relevance in real life. Real life love stories don’t always have an incredibly dashing hero and angelic heroine who fall in love in fairy-tale circumstances. Perhaps it is this realization that has today given us one of the most honest productions of Yash Raj Films. Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a heart melting story of an unusual couple earnestly trying to overcome the hiccups of an arranged marriage.

Plot: A simple middle-class man Prem gets into marriage with an overweight school teacher Sandhya. Unhappy with Sandhya’s over-weight personality, Prem tries to resent every effort made by her. In this continuous fall-out between the two, how does love manage to find a place is something this beautiful narration thrives upon.

Performances: Ever since his debut with Vicky Donor, Ayushmann Khurrana has impressed the audience in every single film. He is a passionate actor and his sincere dedication can be clearly seen in his performances. And yet again, it his honesty that takes away the points in Dum Laga Ke Haisha!

Debutant Bhumi Pednekar undoubtedly deserves a laud for having taken up such a challenging role in her first film. She is totally a winner in her performance! Despite an unconventional figure, she effortlessly manages to leave a lasting impression on the hearts of the audience.

The supporting cast does a commendable job in bringing the story together. Each and every character is absolutely worth praising.

Music: Revoking the memories of the 90s, the music of the film has been composed by the ace music director, Anu Malik. The album is as unconventional as the story itself. Kumar Sanu makes a refreshing comeback, bringing along the love and mush of that era. Ye Moh Moh Ke Dhage is a beautiful composition that should not be missed!

What’s Good: The heart-touching honesty in the script and the characters evokes an instant connect with film. The story is beautiful in its unconventionality and extremely realistic in its discourse. A sincere performance by the actors makes it even worth watching. Listening to the romantic voice of Kumar Sanu after almost a decade brings a sudden nostalgia in the hearts. The right amount of humour in the film makes the audience stick to their seats.

What’s Bad: The slow pace on which the movie establishes can be a hitch for some.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha is one of the most effortless productions by Yash Raj. The story is so natural and believable that it captivates the audience with its unbound realism. The director puts every bit of an effort in showcasing a delicate love story in the most aesthetic manner. Dum Laga Ke Haisha is definitely a must watch!

Verdict: Loves comes in all shapes and sizes and that’s exactly what Dum Laga Ke Haisha ultimately proves!

Rating: *** and a half
