Indian actors have been featuring in quite a few Hollywood, British and Japanese productions, but in recent years the number surely has increased by leaps and bounds, proving that talent is global and cannot be restrained to specific countries or by man-made borders. Here is a comprehensive list of actors who have made it big at the international level:

Anupam Kher: This versatile actor, whom we remember for Bollywood movies like Saaransh and Gandhi, has worked in many Hollywood projects such as ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ and ‘Mistress of Spices’. At present, he is a part of an action thriller by Netflix called Sense8, which is a digital streaming service.

Irfan Khan: With an amazing screen presence and fantastic acting abilities, Irfan has carved a niche even in Hollywood. In fact, he is one of the most well-known faces internationally and has featured in Hollywood movies like ‘A Mighty Heart’, ‘Darjeeling Express’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Life of Pi’. He also acted in the American TV series ‘In Treatment’. The future looks even more interesting with his role as an Indian judge in a Japanese mini-series based on World War II.

Anil Kapoor: The dashing hero of Bollywood during the 80s has indeed made it big time in Hollywood. In fact, his debut film here was the 2008 Oscar winning British production, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. There was no looking back for him after that and he has acted in blockbusters like ‘Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol’ alongside Tom Cruise. Anil Kapoor has also starred in the American series ‘24’.

Saeed Jaffrey: This portly octogenarian is indeed one of the most versatile actors of India. Over the years he has appeared in many British dramas and television series. In fact, he has been awarded the ‘Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)’ for his contribution to drama, the first Asian to have achieved this status. Some of his hit movies and serials include ‘Gangsters’, ‘The Jewel in the Crown’, ‘The Far Pavilions’, ‘Tandoori Nights’ and ‘Little Napoleons’.

Kabir Bedi: We all remember this handsome hunk with a voice to die for. Kabir Bedi was one of the first few Indian actors to receive worldwide recognition. He has starred in many American series including ‘Bold and the Beautiful’, ‘Dynasty’, ‘Murder, She Wrote’, ‘Magnum’, ‘P.I.’, ‘Hunter’, ‘Knight Rider’ and ‘Highlander: The Series’. His portrayal of the pirate ‘Sandokan’ in the Italian six-part TV miniseries is still remembered by many.

Shabana Azmi: Our very own actor-social activist Shabana Azmi is soon to appear in BBC One’s TV series, ‘Capital’, directed by Euros Lyn. This intense actress is all set to win many British hearts.

Nimrat Kaur: The actress from the ‘Lunchbox’ fame, alongside Irfan Khan, debuted in international television with her role in the hit TV series ‘Homeland’ and won rave reviews from the American media. We are sure to see more of her in international productions.

Priyanka Chopra: If you visit America you will come across billboards and buses all over splashed with the face of this gorgeous actress for her role in the hit American series Quantico. Yes, it can be safely said that the actress has carved herself a place in the international world of entertainment with Quantico which has created waves in India and abroad. In this series Priyanka Chopra plays the protagonist, Alex Parrish.
