Manish Tiwary’s Issaq, a desi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is a painstakingly poor attempt that lacks clarity, efficient execution and most importantly, a sense of direction. It is undoubtedly the worst adaptation ever made in Bollywood.
Plot: Based on the Shakespearean epic Romeo and Juliet, Issaq is the story of two love birds who belong to two warring families. Amidst all the feuds, killings, rivalries and bloodshed, what happens to these innocent love-birds is what forms the crux of the film.
Performances: With such a horrible performance by the star cast, the film was ought to fail. Prateik Babbar looks pathetically naive and misfit. His performance lacks sincerity and efficiency. He is, perhaps, a bad choice for this role.
Debutant Amyra Dastur, looks fresh but immature. She looks sweet, innocent and devoid of acting skills.
The only people who manage to do their job well are Ravi Kishen and Rageshwari Sachdev. Their presence gives a little substance to the otherwise hollow movie.
Music: The music of the film has been given by the much talented duo Sachin-Jiagar. The composers have managed to bring out the love and passion in the movie. The album has a total number of seven tracks with good lyrics and impressive music. The music album of Issaq scores much better than the movie itself.
What’s good: Only the music of Issaq is worth the praise.
What’s bad: From direction, performances, screenplay and editing everything seems to have gone wrong.
Issaq is a horrific adaptation that will test your patience and ultimately numb your senses. It is a perfect example of amateur direction. No reasons to watch this one!
Verdict: Bless yourself by giving this one a big miss!
