About Movie Jai Gangaajal

JailGangaajal comes as Priyanka Chopra’s effort to retain her grounds in the Bollywood industry. From flaunting a Lebanese designer’s pristine white ensemble at the Oscars to portraying the character of an SP, Priyanka has a tremendous amount of talent. In Jai Gangaajal, Priyanka plays the role of a contemporary policewoman, SP Abha Mathur who hails from a small district in Bihar and goes against a local MLA.  JailGangaajal also marks the debut of producer-director Prakash Jha, who plays an inspector Bhola Nath Singh aka B.N. Singh. Inspired by a real-life story, Jai Gangaajal also has Manav Kaul, Rahul Bhat and Ninad Kamat in pivotal roles.

Plot

Jai Gangaajal is a female-centric movie with Priyanka Chopra playing the character of SP Abha Mathur who is appointed as the first female SP of Bankipur district in Bihar. The flick is about Abha going against the Bankipur MLA (played by Manav Kaul) and the henchmen of Lakhisarai district. As the flick progresses, the newly appointed superintendent of police finds herself against a group of powerful goons and people from her own department going against her. Jai Gangaajal opens to a lot of expectations and effectively awakens the need to know everything about the society’s socio-political scenario. As the sequel of 2003 hit movie “Gangaajal’, Jai Gangaajal allows you to explore the unique relationship between society and police.

Performances in Jai Gangaajal

Jai Gangaajal has Priyanka Chopra playing the lead role of superintendent of police Abha Mathur who has been posted in a fictitious district called Bankipur in northern India. After having showcased the ‘action’ side of her personality in Mary Kom, Priyanka has delivered a power-packed performance in Jai Gangaajal. Her face-off with Manav Kaul and Prakash Jha is definitely hard-to-miss in the movie.

Making an entry into the world of acting, Prakash Jha has proved to be a phenomenal storyteller who has narrated the story in an engaging style. Playing a strong role, Jha has been successful in creating a deep impact on the audiences. The way Jha’s character switches sides prior to interval is something you’ll regret missing. Next, there are villains (played by Manav Kaul, Murli Sharma and Ninad Kamat) who have done a brilliant job while playing their respective characters.

After leaving everybody spellbound with her commendable performance in ‘Bajirao Mastani’, Priyanka Chopra wooed the audiences by displaying her courage to take on an array of corrupt individuals.

Jai Gangaajal Music

The composer duo Salim-Suleiman truly deserves applause for the tracks of Jai Gangaajal. While ‘Maya Thagni’ is the song that holds you throughout the movie, Sukhwinder Singh’s Tetua has all the energy and passion. Then, there is ‘Jogiya’ which has the beautiful voice of the legendary singer Udit Narayan. Other tracks including ‘Ghanghor Ghana Ghan’, ‘Najar Tori Raja’ and ‘Binu Baadar’ are a complete delight to the ears.

What’s Good?

Priyanka Chopra is the ultimate USP of Jai Gangaajal. Her impressive screen presence is breathtaking and scenes inspired from real-life incidents will help you in connecting with the flick instantly.

What’s Bad?

The typical plot of Jai Gangaajal is its biggest downside. With same narration as the one used in the original Ajay Devgan-starrer Gangaajal, Jai Gangaajal just has the character of debutant actor-cum-director Prakash Jha under frame with no sense of realism.

 Verdict

Unlike Prakash Jha’s previous projects including Mrityudand, Rajneeti and Gangaajal; Jai Gangaajal seems to be more of a launchpad rather than serious cinema. Go and watch the movie if you are a Priyanka Chopra fan and want to see her kicking and punching enthusiastically.

Jai Gangaajal Rating ** (2/5)
