Plot

Muthuvel Pandiyan (Rajinikanth) is an old retired jailer who lives happily helping his teenage grandson make Youtube videos. Like his father, Muthu’s son, Arjun (Vasanth Ravi), works for justice as an assistant commissioner. His latest case is working on breaking a smuggling mafia headed by Varma (Vinayakan). Once Arjun goes missing, the family goes into turmoil. Muthu gets back to his good old days, where he uses his heroic means to take revenge for his son.

Muthu gets help from criminals of his past to take revenge on Varma. During this time, he endures difficulties, bringing a twist to the movie. The movie gives hints and dialogues to get us to the scenes. The plot though small, was used to bring out all the mass action of the evergreen Rajinikanth. The dark humour sets the movie apart but does not work well in the second half. The film is a bit slow but catches up for the incredible climax.

Performances

The performance of Rajinikanth on screen is filled with entertaining tactics with slow motions and background score. Ramya and Tamannah were given roles that worked effectively for the movie. Yogi Babu, Reddin Kingsley, and Jaffer Sadiq performed their roles, providing the story with fun and interest for the viewers. Every small role is significant for the movie. The villain, with his cruelty and expression, was the perfect opposite of the heroism of Rajinikanth.

The short screen presence of stardom actors has changed the movie sequence entirely. Mohanlal from Mollywood, Shivaraj Kumar from Sandalwood (a Kannada movie), and Jackie Shroff from the Bollywood industry bring the thunder to the theaters. The few minutes of these actors have been utilised for the twists in the movie.

Analysis

Anirudh Ravichandran is the music composer of the movie. He created the movie’s ambiance with music. The film takes its mass and slow-motion credits from the background music. The song ‘Kaavalaya’ has already been trending across social media. But apart from that song, Hukum, and Jujubee have not reached much hype as the former song. The background music has enabled the movie to move forward with entertainment.

Verdict

It is a must-watch for its theatrical experience. It is a fun, thrilling movie with many reasons to get excited. The film changes its genre into various types according to the storyline. The second half could have been more engaging due to its lag and shortage of story. It has provided a shorter time for showing the past life of Rajinikanth. But the movie offers enough elements to enjoy happily.

The film could have provided more story in the second half. The direction has exceeded the expectations of viewers. Nelson’s direction has given a surprise as his prior movies, including ‘Beast’ by actor Vijay were not appreciated. He has brought fun to the audience using various elements, such as the cameos.
