Plot

OMG 2 follows the story of Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a simple man with a loving family and a deep devotion to Lord Shiva. His life is turned upside down when he learns that his son has been admitted to the hospital. Kanti was shocked when the doctor told him that his son had taken three pills of Viagra the night before. When he looked into the situation, he soon realized that his son had been bullied at school.

Later we find out that because of many misguidances from the internet and various people, he starts masturbating regularly and consuming numerous fake advertised products. Things get worse when a video of him masturbating in the school’s washroom gets viral on the internet, and he is now thrown out of the school in the name of “immoral misconduct.” To save his name and his family from the crisis, Kanti decided to leave town. However, knowing his devotee’s plight, Lord Shiva sent one of his Shivgan, played by Akshay Kumar, to help him.

Now, with the blessings and guidance of Lord Mahadev, Kanti decides to take the school and everyone responsible for misleading his son to court. He demands nothing more than an apology for his son. It won’t be easy, as the school has one of the best lawyers, Sanjana Tripathi, played by Yami Gautam. But Kanti has faith in Lord Shiva and knows he will be victorious.

Performances

The entire cast of the film gave top-notch performances. Pankaj Tripathi, in particular, was outstanding as a devotee, a caring father, a loving husband, and someone trying to learn something he wasn’t aware of. His “Shudh” Hindi was fantastic and one of the film’s highlights. Coming to Akshay Kumar, his performance is one of the best things about the film. He did an excellent job at playing a modernized incarnation of Lord Shiva, and the audience wished that he had a lot more screen time. But even with his little presence, he stole the entire scene. Everyone wanted to see more of Akshay Kumar playing a humanized Lord Mahadev.

Yami Gautam also successfully portrayed the role of a close-minded, egoistic lawyer who will try anything to win. She was successful in getting on the nerves of the audience. Everyone else too delivered stellar performances, especially Pavan Malhotra. His portrayal of a high court judge is one of the key highlights of the film.

Analysis

OMG 2 takes the topic of lack of sex education to a new level. The film beautifully illustrates the importance of sex education in our education system. It teaches its audience the need to talk about sex and educate young minds about it. To raise awareness about this topic, Pankaj Tripathi introduces us to various Hindu scriptures, such as the Vedas and the Kama Sutra, making the film unique.

Amit Rai and his team of writers did an outstanding job with the dialogue in OMG 2. The dialogue is engaging and thought-provoking, from Pankaj Tripathi’s pure Hindi words to Akshay Kumar’s philosophical Hindu quotes. The conversation between Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar, in particular, is a masterclass in dialogue writing. It perfectly captures the essence of a conversation between God and an unaware devotee.

The cinematography in OMG 2 is stunning, especially the scenes with Akshay Kumar’s Lord Shiva. The visuals in these scenes are so beautiful and eye-catching that you can’t help but stare. VFX could have been improved in some of the later scenes. The music in OMG 2 is also excellent. The songs, such as “Har Har Mahadev” and “Oonchi Oonchi Waadi,” are electrifying and uplifting. They perfectly complement the film’s message and tone.

Verdict

The film has two sides that everyone can enjoy. The first is the story of a father fighting for his son’s honor. He will stop at nothing to prove his son’s innocence and to hold the education system and societal norms accountable for his son’s misguidance and lack of sex education.

If the film had focused solely on this aspect, it would have been great even without Akshay Kumar’s Lord Shiva. But that’s when the other half of the film comes in. The second story follows the journey of a devotee in despair and Lord Shiva himself taking on a human form to help him. Akshay Kumar’s modern take on Mahadev guides Pankaj Tripathi’s character to victory, which makes the film even better.
