About Movie Phobia

Method actor Radhika Apte of ‘Manjhi: The Mountain Man’ fame is back with ‘Phobia’ where she essays the role of a girl suffering from severe Agoraphobia (an anxiety disorder which makes a person perceive that his/her environment is uncomfortable, dangerous or unsafe). Directed by ‘Ragini MMS’ director Pawan Kriplani, Phobia is the first horror movie produced by Viki Rajani, who has produced some of the biggest blockbusters, including R…..Rajkumar and Table No.21. Radhika Apte, who plays the lead in this psychological thriller, is scared of going out of the house and also of staying indoors.

Plot

Phobia revolves around a young artist, Mehak (played by Radhika Apte), who has developed acute Agarophobia and hence, afraid of open spaces. She develops the disorder after being sexually assaulted in the past. One day, some robbers break open into Mehak’s house forcefully and torture her. The way in which Mehak takes her stand and fights the robbers is what forms the crux of Phobia. The flick is loaded with a lot of suspense and superbly capable of keeping the audience thrilled throughout the sequences.

Phobia also seems to have little resemblance to the 2014 Hollywood movie with the same title, featuring Michael Jefferson, who also suffers from the same anxiety disorder after losing his wife in a car accident.

Performances

After impressing the movie buffs with her excellent performance in movies such as Badlapur, Manjhi- The Mountain Man and Ahalya, Radhika Apte has perhaps played the most intense role of her career in Phobia. Excited about working on a project with ‘horror’ as the genre, Radhika Apte has exhibited her acting skills in a phenomenal way. Her character is easily believable and gives you jitters from the beginning till the end.

Phobia Music

The music of Phobia has been created by Daniel B. George and has just one track titled “Roke Na Ruke” which runs for duration of 2 min 24 sec.

What’s Good?

Radhika Apte is the USP of Phobia. She was hardly out of her character during the entire film. What makes this psychological thriller an impressive watch is the presence of surprise, fear and shock in equal measure. The background score of the film keeps you hooked on to the screen.

What’s Bad?

Apart from a couple of scenes where the film seemed to be losing the momentum, there’s nothing much wrong in Phobia.

Verdict

The film is not just scary but it has a strong social message built into its content. As an audience, you will be on the edges of your seat, because something wicked may be always lurking near.
