Plot

The story of breakup expert Mickey (Ranbir Kapoor) and his best friend Dabbas (Anubhav Singh Bassi) as they travel to Spain for a bachelor party is followed in the movie. On what was intended to be a boys-only trip, Dabbas’ fiance Kinchi (Monica Chaudhary) and her friend Tinni (Shraddha Kapoor) unexpectedly join them.

As the narrative progresses, Mickey and Tinni fall in love. This sparks a chain of events involving humour, romance, and emotional upheaval centred on their families. The movie depicts the conflicting views of men and women regarding families entertainingly, but it also touches on more serious subjects without giving away too much of the plot.

Performances

Ranbir Kapoor delivers another captivating performance as Mickey, leaving audiences spellbound with his comic timing, self-obsessed boy-next-door persona, and charming personality. His shirtless scenes were particularly noteworthy.

Shraddha Kapoor, portraying the character of Tinni, demonstrates an unbreakable connection with her role, delivering an impeccable performance with excellent dialogue throughout the story. Dimple Kapadia’s performance as Ranbir Kapoor’s mother is flawless, showcasing her perfect comic timing and bringing a fun element to her portrayal of a Punjabi mother. While Anubhav Singh Bassi impresses the audience with his punchlines as Mannu, he needs to improve his acting skills to enhance his on-screen presence.

Analysis

The seamless family drama and love story blending in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar makes it unique and adds to its emotional resonance. By gently inserting an endearing family dynamic in the background, the film stays faithful to its genre. The two components are evenly distributed in the movie’s second half, which proceeds at a quick clip. The tension between the lead pair is pertinent and provides insight into relationships in the present. The film offers an honest reflection of how contemporary relationships are affected rather than making an excessive effort to be entertaining.

However, the film’s first hour feels unnecessarily prolonged, with a slow pacing that could have been improved. The section set in Spain is particularly tedious, with an unappealing narrative that could have been better written to enhance the film’s overall quality. The lead couple has multiple monologue chats; however, these sequences seem boring and monotonous after a while. Another critical thing about the movie is its length; the first half could have been cut down. In addition, some scenes in the film seem excessive.

Final Verdict

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar is a delightful romantic comedy infused with significant emotional depth. The film features several moments sure to please the audience, and its family drama element is particularly well-executed. Ranbir and Shraddha deliver commendable performances, and the supporting cast contributes positively to the film’s overall quality. Despite the slow pacing of the first half, this rom-com is worth watching in theatres.
