Rating: 3.5

Zwigato is a movie acted by Kapil Sharma. The Nandita Das-directed movie also starred Shahana Goswami. The producers of Zwigato are Nandita Das, Sameer Nair, and Deepak Segal.

Plot

The story begins with Manas (Kapil Sharma) walking through an empty train. He finds Pratima (Shahana Goswami) wearing a glittery black and white saree. She suddenly disappears, leaving Manas confused. It turns out that the train scenes are nightmares. Manas lives with his mother, two children, a boy and a girl, and a wife.

Manas works for Zwigato, an online food delivery application. He has to gain ratings, finish the delivery on time, and listen to the wrath of the customers and management. When this goes on, Pratima tries to earn some extra money as they need it. The meagre tip and salary of Manas’ are insufficient for the five members. The story revolves around how they live to find ways to make ends meet.

Performances

The performance of Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami created a better effect for connecting with the audience. The minute expressions, the occasional romance, and the temper handling made it a well-executed performance.

Realistic Touches

The movie is a reality-based Indian scenario. The story captures the essence they wanted to project- How does a delivery guy go through his daily life in India? The movie answered this question with its sequences. The children’s little woes, such as a craving for ice cream, the grandmother’s diaper issue, and the rude customer decreasing the rating, are a few examples of the hardships faced.

The movie twists and turns around how Manas regulates his life around his family, friends, and work. There are instances shown where his friends’ lives are also presented. India’s protests and such issues are in a few scenes. But the plot for it is not given much content. When her friend (or acquaintance) lies to some lady to get her a job as a massager, Pratima gains some money. She gets rejected in one such situation because of her looks. They showcase the life of the poor around the rich and how they are treated/mistreated.

Message in nutshell

The plot provides an insight into how the family lives through their daily worries. The mental pressure to get the ratings and the goals correct and Pratima finding a job in the mall are all part of the message. Even though the story has no end, the theme is expressed well. Each scene speaks the truth. When the lift is not provided for service people in a multi-storeyed apartment, it brings emotion to the audience. The mistreatment of people just because of their job and their dress is given in this movie.

Verdict

The ending of the movie was too abrupt. But the story’s main aim was to show the lives of a fellow delivery guy. The acting of both Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami was exceptional and picture-perfect. The scenes were taken from various angles for emotions to work. The movie has only one song that is present at its end.

Final Thoughts

The movie is a must-watch to understand the life of the poor in India. It reveals true nature of a sect of the poor and the helpless in India and is worth watching.
