It is Diva by another name – Latitude 28. It is classy, exclusive, hidden, expensive and yes worth a visit, even if it is just for salad. But is it good? You bet. The ambience of the restaurant transports you to a different world. The essential oils they diffuse succeed in fooling your mind about where you are, it makes you feel calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the Khan Market.
To find Latitude 28 is not easy, it is hidden behind stairs and stores. You enter Earth and make your way inside, it is on the top floor of the store. Ritu Dalmia’s minimalism is on a 70mm display. Whether it is the menu or food, or ambience, you can feel that touch of someone doing everything with a purpose, and doing it perfectly every time, day after day.
The first thing we got going was bread. One bite and I was sold, as it was not bread, but gold. Freshness erupted in my mouth and the bake was perfect. I am sure one day they will put it on their menu – buy this whole bread for Rs 1,000 and take it home. And, one would buy and take it home.
Of course it burns a hole in your pocket, but it is definitely an exclusive experience, an experience which tells you the food hasn’t come from very far and having this quality of cheese can never be a sin. I am not sure why they call it Warm Goat Cheese Salad with Mixed greens, Sun-dried Tomatoes and Balsamic Sauce but whatever be their reason to call, it is too real to be happening to you. I am sure I would go back for it and something more. Crunchy, flavourful and full of zest.
Call it Latitude 28 or Diva, if you are a foodie and you can afford it, go once. A full meal with wine and all is likely to cost upwards of Rs 10,000 for two.
