What Is Indra Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme?

The primary purpose of the scheme is to provide financial support to low-income families living in cities who do not have employment.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gahlot, announced a scheme related to employment, the “Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme” or “Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Guarantee Yojana” on August 30, 2022. He also stated that the scheme would be launched on September 9, 2022, at Shri Umaid Government Stadium.

The Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme is a scheme launched in the state of Rajasthan. The primary purpose of the scheme is to provide financial support to low-income families living in cities who do not have employment. The maximum number of days provided under the scheme is 100 a year. According to the ‘Indian Express’, the Local Self Governance Minister of Rajasthan, Shanti Dhariwal, informed that till now, 4 lakh people have registered. 2.5 million people out of 4 lakh have collected their job cards.

 About the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee scheme 

The official age group of the people covered under the scheme should be 18 to 60 years. The person should be eligible to get employment in the jobs mentioned by the government. The Rajasthan government has a budget of Rs 800 crore for the scheme. The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gahlot, stated, “We passed this budget for the scheme and decided to launch it in 2022-2023.” The state government’s “local bodies department” is responsible for better implementation of the schemes. The scheme was formed after taking inspiration from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

 Wage Systems

The wages of the employees are based on the types of jobs. There are two types of jobs. One is skilled, and the other one is unskilled. The wage is Rs 283 per day for skilled labourers, and for unskilled labour, it is Rs 259 per day. On top of both types of labour, the supervisors get a fixed amount of Rs 271 per day. The beneficiary doesn’t have to wait long; the payment gets credited to the respective bank accounts within 15 days. Not only the labourers but the municipal bodies working well or with a good record will be rewarded under the scheme.

 How to register for the scheme?

 The method of applying for the scheme is very simple. Only a JanAadhar card or its registration slip will be enough in the name of the documents. The JanAadhar card, or its registration, is another initiative of the Rajasthan government. People with this document can apply for the scheme.

 Jobs provided under the scheme include the following.

 The scheme mentions two categories of jobs. The jobs are water conservation, tree plantation, waste management, and the overall development of Rajasthan.

 Two categories

 Category one 

 This category includes jobs such as cleanliness, solid waste management, door-to-door garbage collection, segregation of garbage, removing encroachments, sanitation, and removing all the illegal boards, banners, and holdings in the area.

 Category two

 The second category includes all skilled work, such as multi-tasking services at lower offices, keeping records as assigned, various jobs at gaushalas, jobs related to security at urban civic bodies or public lands, and gardening.
