Sanjeevaiah Park, a public park and one of the prime tourist attractions in Hyderabad. It is located along the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake, in the heart of the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. Covering an area of 92 acres, it enjoys a prime location. The park, which bagged the “Best Open Landscape Award” in 2010 by National Trust for Art and Culture, is supposed to be the oldest and the largest park in Hyderabad. It is presently maintained and managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Sanjeevaiah Park History

  • The idea of creating a recreational zone for beautification of the area around the Hussain Sagar Lake prompted the birth of Sanjeevaiah Park.
  • In 2010, the park went through renovation and was converted into a tourist spot.
  • The park was named after Damodaram Sanjivayya, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.

Green lawns: The lawns with lush greenery offer a mesmerising view of the park. The lawns have ample spaces for kids’ play zones with swings, merry-go-rounds, balance bars and other happy distractions. The large green space all around the park are ideal for relaxing and enjoying picnics. The park also has a separate walkway, paved specially for visitors to enjoy morning and evening strolls, jogs in the park.

Rose Garden: It is another major highlight of the park. With a wide variety of roses of different colours, breeds and sizes, the rose garden gives a colourful and spectacular look to the park. Besides the roses, you will also come across other grogeous flowers and ornamental trees in the park.

Fauna: Another major attraction of this park is the different species of fauna which are found here. You get to see more than 100 varieties of local and migratory birds and more than 50 varieties of butterflies and insects sprawling in this park. One popular migratory bird seen here is the Pied Crested Cuckoo.

Floral Clock: When you take a stroll in the park, you will come across the floral clock, which is also listed as one of the major attractions inside the park.

Rock Garden: Last but not the least, another prominent attraction of this park is the vast range of rocks of unique shapes and sizes which are found here. You can climb on them to get an excellent view of the park and for which it is also sometimes referred as the Rock garden.

Sanjeevaiah Park Facts

  • The Sanjeevaiah Park is the only park located on the Necklace Road of Hyderabad.
  • The local birdwatchers believe that the arrival of the Pied Crested Cuckoo in the park marks the onset of monsoon in the city. This is because, as soon as the bird is spotted, you can expect rains in the city after 15 to 18 days.
  • The lights in the park are solar powered.
  • There are several beautiful sculptures seen in the park. They are made up of recycled materials.
  • For many early risers as well as the local and foreign tourists, this park is the perfect location to have a beautiful glimpse of sunrise.
  • This is the only park where cycling is allowed inside.

Sanjeevaiah Park is also one of the happening venues in Hyderabad to host events. Several social awareness campaigns, entertaining programmes, roller skating races, and other exciting events take place from time to time. This is a perfect place to visit for all age groups to have fun, enjoy, relax and rejuvenate alone or with family and friends.

The park is open on all days from 8.00 AM to 7.00 PM
For Morning Walkers, the park opens its gates at 5.00AM

Sanjeevaiah Park Entry Fees

  • For morning walkers, the entry fee is Rs. 2 per person and for general visitors, the entry fee is Rs. 5 per person.
  • Entry is free for children below 10 years.
  • Regular visitors can opt for the monthly pass of Rs. 50 or an annual pass of Rs. 500.
