With a celebration of culture and festivities, the sweetness of Rasgullas and charismatic architecture – Kolkata is rightly addressed as the City of Joy. The Victoria Memorial or officially the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata is an attraction that can also be considered as the Pride of Kolkata.
Dedicated to Queen Victoria, Empress of India, the majestic Victoria Memorial assures a delightful visit. Its architecture speaks of a British and Mughal blend with a tinge of Italian style of architecture as well. Two large marble lions at the entrance welcome you, greens and manicured lawns adds freshness to the sight of the picturesque building, while the tranquil lake surrounding it changes moods according to the sky – all set to steals your heart. The interiors of the museum are impressive and paintings, art, artefacts furniture and various other memorabilia of history are exhibited inside. Photography is prohibited inside the museum.
On the apex of the dome of the Victoria Memorial, is a black bronze angel and looks stunning in the evening when the building is illuminated with lights. Also, there is a laser show conducted in the evening and is worth a watch. It highlights the history of Kolkata with shows in Bengali and English.
P.S: Pose outside the Victoria Memorial on a horse carriage for a perfect picture and go for a memorable ride once you have visited it. 🙂
