What these cities mean to me

I was born in Patiala, Punjab but the city of Delhi is my hometown. Thanks to my parents love for traveling and Central Government giving them LTC (Leave Travel Concession/ Allowance), things were good from the word go. I kept on adding to where they stopped. Having stayed at over hundred cities within India for at least for more than two nights I have impressions to share.

Here is a rundown of some of the cities:

  • Delhi – Good, bad or ugly, this is the heart of India.
  • Mumbai – Whatever they may do, it remains Bombay Dreams.
  • Kolkata – The city has a heart beat, though it beats erratically at times.
  • Chennai – A larger than life city, from hoardings to street quarells everything in this city is out of proportion.
  • Bangalore – How brain can ruin beauty.
  • Hyderabad – Pale shadow of its past, where every thing is still not lost.
  • Ahmedabad – It was unfair to move the capital to Gandhi Nagar.
  • Pune – This city screams, why are you waking me up and pushing me to become a mess.
  • Jaipur – No longer pink, no longer perfect, a city which just keeps growing.
  • Lucknow – Struggling to go beyond its culture.
  • Kanpur – Politics killed this industrial city.
  • Mussorie – Delhi extension area.
  • Nainital – We have the lake, Mussorie doesn’t.
  • Shimla – Look Britishers, look what we did to your summer capital.
  • Bhopal – We were good without Surma Bhopali.
  • Darjelling – Please leave us alone with our awesome views.
  • Cuttack – Remember we have a Cricket Stadium.
  • Patna – Someday we will fight back and be in the reckoning.
  • Agra – We put India on the world map.
  • Trivandrum – The city with most educated and articulate auto drivers in the country.
  • Panaji – Call me Goa.
  • Chandigarh – Divided I stand.
  • Udaipur – Indian connection with Bond, I am Bond, I am James Bond. (James Bond movie Octopussy was shot in Udaipur and got it in world focus).
  • Jodhpur – If only Maharaja Hanwant Singh Ji had not died on January 26, 1962.
  • Amritsar – Yes, the city of The Golden Temple.
  • Ludhiana – Of bicycles and BMWs.
  • Patiala – Struggling for an identity beyond Patiala peg and Maharaja of Patiala’s excesses.
  • Jammu – Poor cousin to Sri Nagar
  • Sri Nagar – Why do we have to go through all this.
  • Gurgaon – Talk about brands we host, not about our roads.
  • Noida – Sanjay Gandhi was a visionary.
  • Ooty – My full name is Ootacumnd and I am a hill-station.
  • Kodaikanal – Call me Kodai and bicycle around my lake.
