With summers raging and the nation once again opening after the disastrous second wave of coronavirus, it is time to head out and let the sunshine on you. Time to stretch those legs after long weeks of sitting before a computer and finally letting your hair down after months of no-nonsense buns.

However, with summers comes the unfortunate and inevitable sunburns. Being out in the sun without sunscreen can leave your skin prone to sun damage. Sunburns are itchy, red spots that show up on your skin when it’s damaged from the sun’s harmful rays.

Here are easy home remedies for sunburns:

  1. Aloe vera

Aloe vera, the magical saviour. What can this little plant not do? If there’s one plant you should get for your house, it is the multipurpose aloe vera, with its usage ranging from skin problems to stomach infections.

Cut an aloe vera leaf, split it in half so that the gel is out. Then, directly rub the gel onto your sunburnt body parts. It is the easiest and best way to cool your skin and help it heal faster. You can also use store-bought aloe vera gel bottles.

2) Hydration

Being out in the sun strips you of all your water content and makes you dehydrated. Drink lots of water and rehydrate your body. This will help you feel rejuvenated and also keep sunburns away.

3) Coldwater/ Cold Compress

Nothing feels better on inflamed skin than a cold shower or ice pack. The cold will soothe the burn and ease the affected area. If you’re out for a day near a beach, lake or pool, then keep jumping into the water now and then. It will lessen the severity of sunburns and keep your skin cool.

4) Baking soda

It is another unconventional method of easing sunburns. All you have to do is add 5-6 spoonfuls of baking soda to your bathwater. Then, soak your affected area or your complete body in this water for half an hour or so. It will ease the burns and help with irritated skin.

5) Moisturizer

Your skin has already gone through enough. Sunburns can make your skin feeling chapped or dry. Instead, use a good skin moisturizer to bring back the bounce and hydrate your skin. It will calm your skin while also making you feel smooth and fresh.
