First Friday of 2015 and Bollywood enthusiasts like me have already started talking about the upcoming cinematic year! 2014 turned out to be a visually fulfilling year with some of the most awaited releases hitting the screens with a bang. Big banners, big stars, the three Khans, great music and a lot more, it was a year to remember! Moving forward with the zeal 2014 left us with, we step into another worthy year of magnificent cinema. Studded with the glitz and glamour of the showbiz, is an even more enthralling year to look up to. 2015 has some of the most sensational projects lined up. Can’t hold up the excitement? Here is a quick take on the cinematic calendar of the new year:
1. Big B’s Shamitabh and Piku
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan returns to the silver screen with one of the biggest projects this year. Said to be released on February 6, Shamitabh also has Ranjhanaa star Dhanush and Kamal Haasan’s younger one, Akshara Haasan, in lead roles.
Piku is yet another big release Bachchan will be seen featuring in, this year. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film brings Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan together, four years after Aarakshan!
2. Ranbir Kapoor’s Roy, Tamasha, Jagga Jasoos and Bombay Velvet
Lined up for February release is Ranbir’s most talked about film, Roy! Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Roy is an action thriller with Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandes in a love triangle.
Tamasha is a mega budget film from the ace director Imtiaz Ali. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and ex-flame Deepika Padukone, the film will hit the theatres on the Christmas Eve this year.
Paired for the second time after six years, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif come together for Anurag Basu’s mega project Jagga Jasoos. A UTV Disney production, Jagga Jasoos is a detective comedy set to release on August 28, 2015.
Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet also casts Ranbir Kapoor in a lead role opposite Anushka Sharma. Touted to be Anurag’s biggest project so far, Bombay Velvet is an adaptation of historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables. The film also marks the formal acting debut of film-maker Karan Johar.
3. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani
After a smashing blockbuster last year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to rock the theatres with yet another romantic drama, Bajirao Mastani. The film once again brings together the sensational pair of Ram-Leela, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Actress Priyanka Chopra will also be seen in a major role in this one.
4. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Directed by Kabir Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijan is the love story of a Muslim Man and a Brahmin woman. Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen opposite Salman to recreate the success of Bodyguard. The film is scheduled to be released on July 16.
In November this year, Salman Khan will be seen in yet another dazzling project called Prem Ratan Dhan Payo! After a long gap of 16 years, Salman re-unites with Rajshri Productions with an absolutely fresh pairing opposite Sonam Kapoor.
5. Akshay Kumar’s Baby, Gabbar, Brothers and Singh is Bling
Scheduled for January release, Baby is an action thriller starring Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu.
A remake of A R Murugadoss Tamil film ‘Ramana’, Gabbar is a mega project featuring Akshay Kumar and Ileana D’Cruz with Salman Khan in a special appearance. Scheduled to be released on August 15, Gabbar has been produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom Motion Pictures.
Brothers is a multi-starrer film with Akshay Kumar, Siddharth Malhotra, Jackie Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandes in lead roles. The film is set to release on October 2. It is one of the big budget films this year.
Sequel to the successful comedy Singh is King, Singh is Bling is all set to make an exciting entry this year. The film has been directed by Prabhu Deva and features Kriti Sanon opposite Akshay!
6. Shahrukh Khan’s Fan and Raees
A film by the Yash Raj banner, Fan is the story of a fan’s love for his favourite superstar. The leading lady of this big-budget film is yet to be decided.
King Khan is also working on another project called Raees which will have Pakistani actress Mahira Khan as the main lead.
Some other major releases of 2015 include Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Phantom, to be released in April. A sequel to the blockbuster comedy Welcome is also slated to release this year. Zoya Akhtar’s multi-starrer Dil Dhadakne Do will be seen hitting the theatres in the month of June. The leading stars include Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Anushhka Sharma, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah.
I am sure this long list of starry delight might have triggered a good deal of excitement in you. 2015 promises to be a resplendent treat for the movie enthusiasts, who might just have one thing to say by now, Bring it on!
