India’s COVID-19 Cases Double Rapidly

COVID-19 cases are increasing alarmingly in India. Here is today’s some important news regarding novel coronavirus:

  • Total confirmed cases in India have zoomed to 56,342. However, 16,540 patients have been cured while the causality rate is 1,886.
  • The number of reported coronavirus cases in India rose 14 per cent over the past two days to 56,342, data from the morning update of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) showed.
  • Reports said that the CBSE is likely to conduct class 10th and 12th board exams from 1 to 15 July.
  • ICMR will conduct a clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma therapy in 21 hospitals: Health Ministry
  • Samsung resumes limited operations at Noida plant.
  • A ‘Shramik special train’ carrying 1,200 migrant labourers from Surat, Gujarat arrives at Kanpur railway station.

  • The Karnataka nodal officer for the exercise of sending stranded people back to their native states on Friday said that the BS Yediyurappa government has received consent from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand so far.
  • Union health ministry joint secretary said that ‘Project PLACID’ – Phase-II Open-Label Randomised Controlled Trial of ICMR has received the approval of the COVID-19 National Ethics Committee. Under this, the ICMR will conduct the trial in 21 hospitals, to assess safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma, said Lav Agrawal, joint secretary, Health Ministry.
  • Union Health Ministry joint secretary Lav Aggarwal said that the Railways has converted 5,231 coaches as COVID-19 care centres.
  • The Union Health Ministry on Friday said that in 29 districts no new cases have been detected in the last 21 days. In 36 districts no new cases have been detected in the last 14 days.  In 46 districts no new cases have been detected in the last seven days.

  • Around 1,200 migrant people, mainly migrant workers, reach New Delhi Railway Station by buses to board a ‘Shramik Special’ train for Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
  • The second special train with 1,301 migrant labourers left Mohali Railway Station at 10 am today for Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh: Mohali District Public Relations Office.
  • No new positive case has been reported in Uttarakhand today till 2 pm, for the 4th consecutive day. The total number of positive cases of Covid-19 stands at 61 with only 1 death. Active cases remain 15 in the state: State Health Department.
  • Rajasthan: Sixty-four more persons were tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday taking the total positive cases to 3,491.
  • In many places across Delhi-NCR doctors and health workers are being asked to stay at their workplaces and not return to their homes. This kind of behaviour brings down the morale of doctors and health workers: Dr Adarsh Pratap Singh, President, Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS, Delhi.
  • Doctors and health workers are facing additional stress as they have to apply for passes to commute from Ghaziabad, Noida and Haryana to hospitals in Delhi. We have requested Central govt to allow movement of health workers across borders at the presentation of ID cards: President RDA, AIIMS.
  • All university students in Maharashtra, except those in the final year, will be promoted to the next class without examination due to Covid-19 lockdown. The final year examinations will be held in July: State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.
  • Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, minister of state for health Ashwini Kumar Choubey holds a meeting with health ministers of Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka through video conference.
  • AI flight 1242 from Dhaka carrying Indian students landed in Srinagar.
