Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic talk on Tuesday with US President Donald Trump, and both the leaders discussed various issues. Leaders of the two largest democratic countries of the world spoke over 25 minutes. They exchanged their views on some of the critical issues, including border tension between India and China, COVID-19 pandemic. They also talked about the reformation in the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Trump invites Modi in G7 summit

US President Donald Trump once again showed trust in India and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the G7 Summit, which is to be held in the United States later this year. In the talk, PM Modi expressed his anguish over the continuing civil disturbances in the US. Modi believed that the Trump administration would settle down the ongoing issues soon.

The US to send ventilators to India

The relationship between both nations is getting stronger day by day. Therefore the US is set to ship the first installment of 100 donated ventilators to India next week.

Trump spoke about Group of Seven and conveyed his desire to expand the ambit of the grouping beyond the existing membership to include other vital countries, including India. To this, Modi said India would be happy to work with the US and other countries to ensure the success of the proposed Summit, stated a release.

Trump remembered his India visit

During the discussion, President Trump remembered his historic visit to India in February early this year. PM Modi revealed that the US President’s visit had added new dynamism to the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Modi tweeted,

“Had a warm and productive conversation with my friend President Donald Trump. We discussed his plans for the US presidency of G7, the Covid-19 pandemic, and many other issues”. 

Discussion on India-China border tension

The two leaders thoroughly discussed the ongoing border tension between China and India. Currently, Chinese soldiers have entered into Indian territory, but Beijing has been denying. Earlier, Trump declared to mediate to diffuse the border tension between the two neighboring nations. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday also claimed that Chinese troops were present in large numbers at the border.

Trump-like to host G-7 during UN assembly

The US President had earlier indicated that he would host the G-7 Summit during the time of the annual UN General Assembly meeting in September or after the forthcoming presidential elections on November-3.

Modi praises Trump’s approach

In the end, PM Modi appreciated Trump for his far-sighted approach, and he further stated that India is ready to work side by side with the US and other countries to make the proposed G-7 Summit a successful event. Last time the two leaders talked in April when Trump dialed Modi for anti-malarial drug HCQ for COVID-19 treatment.
