The UDAY Express, Utkrisht Double-Decker Air-conditioned Yatri from Coimbatore to Bengaluru will be launched by September 2017, according to an announcement made by Union Minister Suresh Prabhu. The launch of UDAY Express had been announced more than a year ago by the Railway Minister in his rail budget speech in 2016, but got delayed due to some designing issues.
Suresh Prabhu has said that the problems regarding the designing of the coach have now been solved and the special class overnight train between Coimbatore and Bengaluru will now be launched latest by end of September, 2017. In the meanwhile, Indian Railways will look into the possibility of running an overnight train between these station by using different tracks. Suresh Prabhu has also announced a passenger train between Coimbatore and Pollachi soon.
Features of UDAY Express
The UDAY Express, a 120- seater AC coach and envisioned as a train for overnight business travellers, promises to be a state-of-art train with the following features:
- The train will have automatic food vending machines with pre-cooked hot food
- There will also be tea/coffee vending machines in each coach.
- On-board entertainment facilities with LCD Screens with blue-tooth connectivity
- Bluetooth/wi-fi ear phones will be provided by the Railways
- Various amenities like escalator in the city junction.
- Modernised platforms in Thudiyalur and Periyanaickenpalayam on the outskirts.
- The double-decker trains already boast of modular toilets and eventually, Railways plans to modify the design in order to introduce bio-toilets.
- The train has the potential to increase carrying capacity by almost 40%
- The USP of this train is to provide better passenger amenities in less than 3AC fare.
- There will be no sleeper berth in site of being an overnight train, but will be equipped with comfortable reclining chairs and adequate leg space will be there for the passengers to have a comfortable night along with other added facilities.
