Demography of northeast Delhi

As per the 2011 census, northeast Delhi is a thickly populated area. The density of this area is 36,155 per square kilometre. The total area that comes under northeast Delhi is 62 sq km. It has a sex ratio of 886 females for every 1,000 males. While the literacy rate of northeast Delhi is 84 per cent, the total population of northeast Delhi in 2011 was 2,241,624, in which the Hindu population was 15,29,337 comprising almost 69 per cent. It means 30 odd per cent of Muslims are residing in this area. Jaffrabad and Seelampur have a chunk of the Muslim population. The above data is from nine years ago.

Areas affected in northeast Delhi; death toll reaches 21 as an IB official dies

The unprecedented violence has been continuing in various parts of northeast Delhi between Anti and Pro CAA, NRC groups since Sunday. The severely affected areas are – Seelampur, Jaffrabad, Maujpur and Gokulpuri Chowk, Bhajanpura and Chandbagh. As per the official report, the death toll has reached 21. Fresh violence took place today morning with reports of arson and stone-pelting in some of the areas. 

Appeal to restore peace

Police and other agencies are working to restore peace. Political parties are appealing to maintain peace and normalcy. Over 200 people are nursing in different hospitals injured during the clash. Prime minister Narendra Modi said that peace and harmony are central to our ethos.

Violence continues in northeast Delhi

Things have not changed much as violence is ongoing, and the entire area is looking like a war zone which led to the cancellation of CBSE board exams to be held in affected areas on Wednesday. Some of the metro stations of northeast Delhi had to be closed due to the violence. 

Since the violence, two officials Ratan Lal and Ankit Sharma have died. Ratan Lal was the head constable of the Delhi Police, and he lost his life due to head injuries as stone pelters hit him. Ankit, an Intelligence Bureau security assistant was killed, and his body has been recovered from a drain in the Chand Bagh area today. The young officer was under training in the Intelligence Bureau.
