Here is a list of some of the highly anticipated movie releases of 2017. So, which one are you waiting for with bated breath?

Raees

Raees is a thriller. Yes, we did mean the genre but the SRK action flick has kept the fans excited ever since the trailer was released. Set to release on January 25, 2017, Raees also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan and is Rahul Dholakia’s directorial venture. Raees is a Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment production. The film’s story is believed to have been based on the life of Gujarat don Abdul Latif.

Baahubali: The Conclusion

“Why Katappa killed Baahubali?” is one of the most searched questions in Google from India. That was the impact of the first film that was made under this franchise. Baahubali’s fans are awaiting an answer in the second part of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali films. The INR 2.5 billion historical drama is scheduled for a release in April 2017 (Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi). Baahubali: The Conclusion stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah in lead roles and is one of the most awaited movies of 2017. Since Baahubali: The Beginning became the highest grossing Indian film within India, the expectations from this one are also high.

Kaabil

The film that may finally break Hritik Roshan’s jink, Kaabil is set for a March 2017 release. Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Rakesh Roshan’s FilmKraft Productions, the movie stars Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam. It tells the tale of two blind people in love and the tragedy that strikes them. The movie is scheduled for a release in Hindi with its dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu.

Robot 2.0- Rajinikanth

That’s the name that gets millions of film buffs across the world hysterical. Robot 2.0 is a sequel to Shankar’s Enthiran (Robot in Hindi). Enthiran was the third highest-grossing South Indian film of all time and 2.0 is set to become the film with the highest budget in India (INR 400 crore). The film is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah of Lyca Productions, and features Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson along with superstar Rajinikanth.

Rangoon

Scheduled for a February 2017 release, Vishal Bharadwaj’s directorial venture Rangoon is up next in our list of most awaited Bollywood flicks. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles, the film is a period piece set during the World War II era. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala with music by Vishal Bhardwaj as well.

Phillauri

It’s been some time since Bollywood gave us a good rom-com. So Anshai Lal’s Phillauri is certainly worth watching out for. Directed by Anushka Sharma (who is also the main lead) with Karnesh Sharma, the film also features Diljit Dosanjh apart from Suraj Sharma who is paired with Mehreen Pirzada. Most of the film has been shot in Phillaur in Jalandhar to keep it authentic. The film is set to hit the box office in March 2017.

Padmavati

Playing the lead roles for a third time after Raas Leela and Bajirao Mastani, Deepika Padukone (as Padmavati) and Ranveer Singh (as Alauddin Khilji) star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming epic movie Padmavati. Produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions, the movie also stars Shahid Kapoor as the ruler of Mewar, Rana Rawal Ratan Singh and Aditi Rao Hydari as Alauddin Khilji’s wife. The movie’s story is already mired in controversy for inaccurate depiction, but that hasn’t stopped the glamorous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from making a special appearance. Padmavati is slated for a November release.

Tiger Zinda Hai

Remember the Salman Khan – Katrina Kaif starrer Ek Tha Tiger? We knew just as the movie was ending that there would be a sequel, right? So here is Sallu Bhai’s 2017 Christmas release. Tiger Zinda Hai will bring back Salman and Katrina in the lead and will be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar instead of Kabir. Yash Raj Films recently released the film’s first look. And it is smashing!

Tubelight

2017 seems to be Bollywood’s favourite year for period pieces and historic dramas. And with all leading stars trying their hand at the genre did we think Salman Khan would be left far behind? Set against the backdrop of the 1962 Sino-Indian war, the movie tells the tale of an Indian man in love with a Chinese girl. Salman Khan pairs up with Zhu Zhu and is supported by Sohail Khan. The film is directed by Kabir Khan.

The Ring

After the release of Raees in January, Shah Rukh Khan fans can look forward to Imtiaz Ali’s directorial venture, The Ring. The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Evelyn Sharma. It is slated for a release in August 2017 and has been shot in Prague, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Budapest. The film brings together SRK and Anushka Sharma a third time after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Jolly LLB 2

Subhash Kapoor courtroom comedy Jolly LLB 2 is scheduled for a release in February 2017. The movie stars Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi and Annu Kapoor. The film’s teaser poster was released by Akshay Kumar in December through his Twitter account.

Golmaal Again

The fourth film in the Golmaal series, Golmaal Again was initially slated for a release over Diwali, but the producers have decided to postpone its release since Rajnikant starer 2.0 is likely to be released on the same date. Not much is known about this Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgan film yet. But if the other three Golmaal movies are any precedent, this one is also likely to be a wholesome comedy.

A number of other movies such as OK Jaanu, Jagga Jasoos, and Mubarakan are scheduled to be released in 2017. AR Rahman will certainly give us some great music to look forward to in OK Jaanu. Anurag Basu directorial venture Jagga Jasoos is likely to star Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor. Another comedy to look forward to. Director Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan should also be an interesting movie featuring the evergreen Anil Kapoor along with Arjun Kapoor.
