If you still think that marriage is the most important thing in a girl’s life, you probably are far away from the real world! Gone are the days when the ultimate dream of every girl was to find her prince charming and get married! The modern Indian girl has some other plans in her mind. At least Dolly has! Director Abhishek Dogra’s Dolly ki Doli is a quirky tale of a runaway bride who does not believe in the institution of marriage!

Plot: An eccentric con-woman, Dolly is a “looteri dulhan” who dumps rich grooms after robbing them off their possessions! Who does this unconventional bride ultimately settle for, forms the crux of the story.

Performances: It is a cold hard fact that even in her long career, Sonam Kapoor has never been able to mount appreciation for acting skills. Despite attempting a plethora of films by now, she continues to don the same spoiled princess attitude in every film. Other than her pretty face and dreamlike closet, there is nothing that catches attention of the audience!

Rajkummar Rao is truly a mine of talent! This guy can mould himself in any form with perfection. Be it as a Rajasthani of City Lights or a Haryanvi Jaat in this one, Rajkummar Rao knows how to impress the viewers! He is the show stealer of Dolly ki Doli!

Another kooky lad, Varun Sharma also manages to entertain the audience with his wit! He is definitely blessed with an amazing comic timing.

Pulkit Samrat, however, comes across a total disappointment in the film. There is less to look out for in his Chulbul Pandey like character that goes over the top.

Music: A good music score could have worked in favour of the film but Dolly ki Doli fails in this segment. Surprisingly, the blame for this downfall comes down to the very talented duo, Sajid Wajid. Dolly ki Doli is one the weakest compositions they can be held responsible for.

What’s Good: The unconventionality of the storyline is something to look out for in Dolly ki Doli. The way it addresses the free-spirited thinking of a modern Indian girl is actually impressive. Rajkummar Rao delivers yet another scintillating performance that stands out in the film.

What’s Bad: Despite having an out-of-the box storyline, the film lacks on a proper execution of the entire concept. The plot seems to be half-baked with loose ends that should have been a little more gripping. Sonam Kapoor does not do justice to Dolly’s vibrant character. Also, the music composition isn’t worthy enough to be heard.

Dolly ki Doli is a light hearted no-brainer based on a fairly unique concept. Owing to its little shortcomings in direction, the film does not work out exceptionally well as an entertainer. Nonetheless, it can be counted as one of those one-time watches that can be enjoyed with family. So in case you have no other plans, take your family out for Dolly ki Doli!

Verdict: Marriage is definitely a serious business!
