Directors like R Balki are the finest examples of pure talent in Bollywood! After having endlessly spoken about the much needed uniqueness in the concepts that Bollywood films lack upon, there are only a few names who have actually taken this up seriously. And R Balki is one of them! Cheeni Kum, Paa and now, Shamitabh! The director’s third project with Amitabh Bachchan, Shamitabh is a hearty concept that dares to moves out-of-the-box and serves the audience with an honest script.

Plot: A speech-impaired village boy dares to dream of becoming a   superstar someday. His ultimate wish turns in to a reality when an old drunkard agrees to give him his voice. What happens when the glitz and glam of his stardom starts to create differences between them, narrates the director in Shamitabh!

Performances: When the Shehenshah performs, the nation watches in silence! Today, I can easily vouch for a fact that Amitabh Bachchan is the most exceptional actor alive in Bollywood! This man has no limits when it comes to showcasing profound talent.

With just his second film in Bollywood, Dhanush has secured a high pedestal for himself in Bollywood. Who says that a superstar is only about good-looks and a dashing personality? Here is a man with an unconventional face and over-powering demeanour all set to become a megastar. To be able to share the same frame with an actor like Amitabh Bachchan without getting subdued demands a big laud indeed.

Akshara Haasan looks like the perfect choice for her character. Despite a dull performance, what impresses the audience is her out-of-the-box look that brings freshness to the screen.

Music: The music score of Shamitabh is purely situational and syncs incredibly well the story. Ace music director, Ilaiyaraaja has done a fantastic job for a project like this. Out of all the compositions, there is one song that manages to leave a mark and that of course is the song sung by Amitabh Bachchan- Pidli Pidli!

What’s Good: An exceptional plot mounted with stellar performances by two great actors. The film has the much needed freshness and provides a good break from the usual stuff that Bollywood offers. A breath-taking climax proves to be the ultimate winning shot for the film.

What’s Bad: The plot loses its pace in the second half and tends to become a little draggy.

R Balki’s Shamitabh is an exemplary treat for all the Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush fans who have been longing for these outstanding actors to show up on the screen. Watching both of them together is an experience to relish! Shamitabh is an unconventional film that leaves you flabbergasted. As the first outstanding film of the year so far, it is a film that should not be missed!

Verdict: You absolutely cannot miss this film at any cost!
