Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for a second consecutive term on May 30, 2019 at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
The ceremony, followed closely in India and overseas, was attended by around eight thousand guests, including several leaders from BIMSTEC countries. The international leaders attending the swearing-in-ceremony included the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena, President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotay Tshering, and the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth,
Among Indian leaders in attendance were UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and former presidents of India Pranab Mukherjee, and Pratibha Patil, among many others.
Modi 2.0 – Team 58
57 ministers took the oath along with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to serve the country as part of the Government. The list included 24 Cabinet ministers, 9 Union Ministers of State including those with Independent Charge, and 24 Ministers of State.
The list includes 6 women.
23 are fresh faces included in 2.0; 28 earlier ministers dropped. 53 ministers are from BJP, 4 from alliance parties.
Most prominent new face in the government is Amit Shah. In 2014, he chose to build the party for future elections as the party president. He is expected to serve as the second most important cabinet minister after the PM.
The other new entry was former Ambassador to the U.S and China S Jaishankar. His entry is expected to bring continuity and thrust to India’s emerging geopolitical presence.

Allies Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP) and Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD) have again been accommodated in the cabinet. A surprise inclusion is 64 years old Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Odisha, a social worker who leads a frugal life and often uses a bicycle as a means of local transport.
Earlier, there was no word from Modi as to who will get the important portfolios of Home, Finance, Defence and Foreign Affairs. However, the names of Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S Jaishankar were doing the rounds as possible choices. The mystery cleared today with the allocation of portfolios.
