Xiaomi has taken over the global market of smartphones and the Indian market. Since its first smartphone Mi 1 launch in 2011, the brand Xiaomi has captivated the India smartphone users with its affordable pricing and is at par with major smartphone companies in terms of the technology it has to offer the users. On May 31, the company launched its latest edition of the smartphone in the Mi series, with the launch of Xiaomi Mi 8 at company’s annual product launch event in Shenzen, China.

Mi 8 is the latest edition of Xiaomi’s flagship Mi series. The smartphone comes with a 6.21-inch OLED screen provided by Samsung. The latest addition to Mi series, Mi8 is first of Xiaomi’s phone with a notch that contains a 20-MP front camera, proximity sensor, infrared lighting and lens, and earpiece to enhance the experience of all the selfie lovers. The phone has both finger and facial recognition features. while the fingerprint sensor is at the back panel, the 3-D facial recognition sensor makes it difficult to break into the phone without phone owner’s permission. The Mi 8 is set to be available for Indian smartphone users by the end of August, it is all set to challenge Vivo X21 that has been launched recently in India and falls under the same price range category.

Built and design

Xiaomi Mi 8 boasts of Samsung’s 6.21-inch OLED screen with a display ratio of 18.7:9, the screen has a relatively wide notch, that has been added to the Xiaomi’s smartphones for the first time. The sleek design with curvy sides makes it more admirable. The phone is 7.6 mm thick and weighs only 175 grams making it pocket-friendly. The Mi 8 phones are available in four colour variants mainly Black, Blue, Gold, and White.

Camera

Xiaomi Mi 8 has the best-in-class camera, with Mi 8’s camera scoring remarkable 99 points overall in the DxOMark ratings. The smartphone’s camera bettered Apple iPhone X’s and Samsung Galaxy S9”s DxOMark score. The Mi 8 phones come with a 12 MP rear dual-camera with in-built digital and optical zoom and image resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels, that makes the user’s photography experience livid. The Mi 8’s camera comes with a 4-axis OIS, AI scene detection, AI portraits, dual pixel autofocus, and video detection and f/1.8 wide angle aperture and a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. The front camera is a delight for all the selfie-lovers, as the 20 MP front camera with an Infrared sensor can capture the perfect selfie moments.

Battery Life

Mi 8 comes with an in-built Li-Polymer battery of 3400 mAh that is set to last for days on standby. The smartphone is equipped with a Type-C USB which charges the phone battery quickly, Xiaomi came up with this addition during the last segments of smartphones launched by the company.

Software and Hardware Specification

The phone comes with a power-packed Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with a 2.8 GHz Octa-core pro, Kryo 385 processor, that operates smoothly without any glitch. Mi 8 runs on Android v8.1 Oreo the latest version of the Android operating system. The phone is available in 4 GB and 6 GB with an inbuilt storage of 64 GB and 128 GB respectively.

Xiaomi phone is worth the wait for Indian smartphone users, as Xiaomi has time and again delivered whenever it comes to an affordable range of smartphones with one of the best-in-class technology. This phone is surely going to give a tough competition to the likes of OnePlus 6 and Vivo X21
