One way or the other, India manages to surpass its rivals and emerge as the numero uno nation for something or the other. The latest feather in the cap is the Best Airport award given to the Jaipur Airport, with Lucknow Airport bagging the second position. Both of these airports are managed by the Airports Authority of India and have won these positions in the ASQ or the Airport Service Quality awards 2015, in ‘2-5 million passengers per annum’ category.
How was the Performance of Jaipur Airport Assessed?
These awards have been a result of extensive customer satisfaction surveys of over 50,000 passengers, carried out by the Airport Council International, which is based out of Montreal. They carried out these surveys in over eight countries last year in three hundred airports across the world.
One cannot help but believe in the claims made by the Airport Director of the Jaipur airport when he affirmed that special care is taken in maintaining quality at all times across all the arrival as well as departure areas. The facilities at the Jaipur airport not only take care of the passengers but also the staff.
The airport, which was accorded the status of international airport in 2005 has recently come up with a new terminal building that can handle up to 1000 passengers at a time.
The Lucknow Airport ended up getting the second rank by virtue of having added passenger facilities for easier clearance and check-in process for providing better and easier facilities for the passengers boarding their flights.
Other Airports that Performed Well
Jaipur airport has been rated the best by the ‘Regions & Size’ in the Asia Pacific region. In the same category, Goa and Trivandrum airports bagged the fourth and the fifth positions respectively. Another airport that made us proud was the Srinagar airport. It bagged the second position in the category of airports handling two million passengers per annum. Currently, Airports Authority of India maintains and owns over hundred airports in India, including Srinagar, Lucknow and Jaipur airports.
Today, the AAI wants the process and experience of flying from any of their airports for all their potential and current air travelers to become commercially viable. It aims at providing world-class facilities at all of these airports. With the same frame of mind, efforts are being taken to improve facilities and infrastructure in the next expansion phase of airports at Guwahati, Agartala, Chennai, Leh, Pune, Ahmedabad, Trichy and Patna.
According to Mr. S. Raheja, Member (Planning) at the AAI, the airports are being planned to have a commercial space so as to attract air travelers with food and beverage items. With four airports under AAI featuring in the top five airports in the category of 2 to 5 million passengers per annum across the world, it can be said that India is keeping pace with the world when it comes to providing facilities in its international as well as domestic airports.
