Delhi University Admissions 2016

Registrations for admission to undergraduate courses under the prestigious Delhi University started on 1 June, 2016. The admissions committee had previously stated that the process would start on 28^th May. However, the authorities decided to put it back so that the process for postgraduate admissions could be completed smoothly. Online applications Candidates will need to upload self-attested documents to get registered for admission. This rule has come into effect from this year. The documents needed to be uploaded are:

Class X board examination certificate and mark sheet
recent passport photograph
Class XII mark sheet
scanned copy of signature
character certificate
SC/ST/OBC certificate in case the concerned student is applying in that category
transfer certificate from school

It is expected that around five cut-off lists will be published this time. This is a first as well considering the fact that in the years gone by, DU has published as many as seven cut-off lists. The official statement from the university has stated that all details regarding registration, and the procedures to be followed thereof, will be provided in the information bulletin. The information bulletin will be updated on the site whenever any new information comes into the public domain. Normally the admission process goes on for two to three months. Procedure for filling up vacant seats As per rules for this year, if even after the fifth cut-off list there are seats in colleges they will need to declare how many seats are remaining and also get their students registered on their official websites. The process of registration is expected to close on 19^th June. The first cut-off list will be announced on 27^th June. It will be followed by subsequent cut-off lists on 1^st July, 7^th July, 12^th July and 16^th July. Going to college only once Every step of the admission process will be completed online, starting from registration to payment of fees. There will be only one time when the student will have to visit the college during this period, that is to check the documents before finally getting admitted. DU shall also provide centralized Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms through its website www.du.ac.in. Students can pay for the same through internet banking. General category students will have to pay INR 100 and Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) students will need to part with INR 50 for forms and registration. The payment for registration will have to be made after uploading the documents. After each cut-off list is published, students will get a time period of three days to take admission. Getting admitted Once a cut-off list is announced students can log in with their registered accounts and check the courses as well as the colleges where their percentage is there in the cut-off list. Then they can look at a combination that they want to take up and consequently get the admission form’s printout. Then at the time of admission they will have to take the form and the original documents so that the college authorities can verify the same and provide an acknowledgement number to the students. After this, they will be asked to make online payment of fees and provide the acknowledgement number as well. In case a student has already been admitted to a college after a cut-off list, they will need to cancel the same in order to get admitted to another college of their choice after the next cut-off list has been published. Calculation of best four The system for calculating the best four percentage remains the same as was in 2015. This implies that in case a student wishes to study a subject not covered in Class XII he or she will lose 2.5 percentage marks. In case the students wish to take up a vocational course 10 percentage marks will be deducted from the total. Open houses The university will also conduct several open house sessions from 1^st to 11^th June with students and their parents in order to answer questions regarding the admission procedure. These will be organized at various locations. Dr. Sunaina, the DU spokesperson for Admission, has also said that the university has specialized e-mail address and phone numbers where students can provide their feedback and ask for help. She has assured that the varsity will provide ‘instant help’ in such cases.
