American Airlines, a part of the AMR Corporation mainly operates from Fort Worth, Texas nearby to its biggest center at Dallas, Fort Worth International Airport. It holds the second position amongst all the existing airlines in the world in regards to operating revenues, international destinations, passenger fleet volume etc.

American Airlines, a founding associate of the Oneworld Airline Alliance came into existence from a potpourri of 82 small airlines through acquirement and reformation. Initially being a common brand with a number of autonomous carriers, it included Southern Air Transport in Texas, Universal Aviation in the Midwest, Southern Air Fast Express (SAFE) in the western United States, Colonial Air Transport in the Northeast and Thompson Aeronautical Services. Finally American Airlines was transformed as a New York based individual company on January 25, 1930 with routes starting from Boston, Chicago and New York to Dallas and Dallas to Los Angeles.

New York Kennedy is the primary among them whereas American's Chicago center is the airline's main gateway to Asia and Europe and New York La Guardia (LGA) is the center of the attention. Lambert-St. Louis International Airport has served domestically for numerous years.

This is the only US based airline scheduling flights to Bolivia, Anguilla, Grenada, Dominica, Uruguay and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. American Airlines has instigated its expansion in Asia, with varied success.
