One of the latest entrants into the domestic civil aviation scene in India, this low-cost carrier started off with its maiden flight from Delhi to Imphal on August 4, 2006. It presently uses only a single type of aircraft, the Airbus A-320. It placed an order for 100 Airbus A320 aircraft during the 2005 Paris Air Show worth US $6 billion and has set a target of serving about 30 Indian cities by 2010.

By April 2007, IndiGo carried more than one million passengers. It currently operates 58 daily flights with a fleet of nine A320 aircraft and connects 13 destinations, including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Guwahati, Imphal, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Vadodara. This year will see IndiGo take delivery of six more brand-new A320 aircraft this year, growing to a fleet size of 15 by the end of 2007. By the year 2010, it plans to serve approximately 30 destinations with a fleet of approximately 40 A320s.

In February 2007, it announced a promotional offer on 100,000 tickets at Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 (plus taxes and surcharges). These tickets were available on a first come, first served basis from February 21 for travel starting February 26. IndiGo has used the best hardware, software, interface design & personnel from around the world to design processes and rules that are safe and simple ensuring a smooth, seamless and satisfying customer experience at fares that are always affordable.
