Swachh Bharat Summer Internship is an extension to the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Modi government which was launched as a national movement on October 2nd, 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of this summer internship programme under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the 43rd edition of the Mann Ki Baat, a monthly radio programme, and urged the youth of the nation to be a part of this summer internship initiative and make their contribution to a clean India.

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Ministry of Human Resource Development have joined their hands to organize this internship programme of 100-hours for the students of colleges and higher education institutions in the upcoming summer vacations.

Under this internship, the registered candidates are required to devote their 100-hours to Swachhata through the year and visit one or more villages, conduct cleanliness activities of their choice and make a relevant contribution to the cause of rural sanitation in India.

The objective of the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship programme aims to engage the educated youth across the nation in this cleanliness drive, enhance their skills and introduce them to the sanitation-related work and unify the youngsters in community development work in the rural areas. It will also help in magnifying the mass awareness on the issue of cleanliness and will promote the people’s movement towards Swachh Bharat Mission.This programme will not only provide a great learning experience to the students but also help in making India healthy and a clean country.

Tasks assigned under this internship

The registered candidates are required to engage in 100-hours of activities in which they will not only participate in the complete cleanliness in the slums and villages selected by them but would also help in setting up of the sustainable cleanliness and sanitation systems under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Who can apply?

The students of colleges and higher education institutions can apply for the internship through an enrolment form available on sbsi.mygov.in. The interested candidates can either apply individually or in a team of maximum 10 members after consultation with a Nodal Officer.

When to apply?

The interested candidates can apply for the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship from 25th April to 15th May 2018.

Duration of the internship

The duration of this internship is 100-hours and the enroled candidates can complete this internship from May 1 to July 31, 2018.

  • Visit the official Swachh Bharat Summer Internship website – sbsi.mygov.in.
  • Choose to enrol in Academic/Institutions or Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
  • Click on ‘Login here’.
  • Enter your Name, Email ID and Mobile number to register on MyGov.
  • Enter email or mobile number and login with OTP.
  • Now fill up the enrollment form.

Suggested activities under the internship

The activities under this internship programme have been divided into three categories:

  • Education-Communication activities.
  • Solid Waste Management related activities.
  • Support in toilet construction.

Rewards & Recognition

On the successful completion of the internship, the interns with excellent results will be awarded a cash prize and recognition at the national level. In order to claim this prize, the student must diligently work towards improving the conditions of the rural sanitation in India. The interns are also entitled to incentives including credit points by the University Grants Commission (UGC). All the participants will be given a Swachh Bharat Internship Certificate on completion of their internship.

The summer internship initiative of the Government of India to involve the youngsters of the country in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the forthcoming summer vacations is remarkable. The youngsters are the future of the country. Engaging them towards this social cause will definitely bring out some exceptional results and will improve the conditions of the rural sanitation in India.
