Silvassa is the capital of Dadra and Nagra Haveli, western India, which is an Indian Union Territory. This land is sandwiched between the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat near Daman. A quiet and calm land of 72 villages, Silvassa is covered with lush green forests with tall trees, meandering rivers, large waterfalls and waterfronts, representing nature at its best.
Silvassa has its name originated from the Portuguese word 'Silva', which means woods. This can be seen when one visits Silvassa as the roads are lined with tall majestic trees. Little cottages are seen lying under the shadows of tall trees and simple, colorful tribal folks are seen all around the Silvassa monsoon landscape. It is said that Silvassa is a "Garden Beautiful" with the roaring waterfalls, misty cascades, rustic stone walls, twin arches, tiny kiosks and springing lawns interspersed with islands of flowers.

With the environment being so polluted in the major cities, Silvassa proves to be a relaxing spot. How to Reach Silvassa
By Road
Journey to Silvassa by road is fun as Silvassa has excellent roads with greenery all around and bus service from almost all places are available for Silvassa. Silvassa Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to Silvassa.
Silvassa almost touches the Western Express Highway (Mumbai-Vadodara-Delhi National Highway No. 8). Mumbai and Pune are the neighboring cities of Silvassa, and both are connected to it through government owned buses, which run on very reasonable fixed fares. Privately owned air-conditioned and non air-conditioned deluxe buses also run from many major cities including Mumbai and Pune.
By Train
Silvassa does not have a railway station of its own. The nearest railway station is located in Vapi, 13 kms from Silvassa, which is also connected to Delhi, Bhilad (20 km) on the western railway, Mumbai-Ahmedabad route and many other cities in India. Transport can be easily found on the Vapi road. The auto-rickshaws charge around Rs. 80-100 to reach Silvassa.
By Air
Since Silvassa is a small state, it does not own an airport or a major railway station. The nearest International airport to Silvassa is Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International airport, which is about 120 km from Silvassa. Services of all the major airlines are available at the Mumbai airport from major Indian Cities and other countries as well. To reach Silvassa, taxis are available at the cost of Rs.2400/- approximately.

Though Silvassa is a small peaceful place, it offers shopping complexes, retail stores and other small shopping areas. The famous souvenirs to be bought from Silvassa are hand made smoking pipes, Warli paintings and other handicrafts.

Silvassa is shopping hub for Warli paintings which is a traditional Indian art of painting named after Maharashtrian tribe. All these beautiful paintings are inspired from life and typically have a unique touch of white, earthy colours and geometric designs. Warli paintings are easily available in any art and handicraft shops in markets usually, at a fixed price. The price also varies with the size of the painting so it is advised to know the names beforehand. The paintings can surely be an interesting pick if you are planning to tour Silvassa.
