Dalhousie- Jogindernagar



Dalhousie- Jogindernagar is one of the most frequented tours from Dalhousie that can be conducted over a weekend. Jogindernagar was named after the industrious emperor of the region who started the hydel power station in the year 1925. Bus routes connect the city of Dalhouse to Jogindernagar.

Raja Joginder Sen of Mandi proposed the plan for the hydroelectricity station near the village of Sukrahatti. The waters of the River Uhl were channeled to the region of Jogindernagar which had set up its power station at Shanan. A group of dedicated engineers worked on the project led by Col. Battye. With the establishment of the power station at Shanan, the state government decided to place another such set of turbines in the region of Bassi, which is located at a distance of 6 kilometers from the city center of Jogindernagar.

The tourist may visit several places in the city of Jogindernagar. The sacred Macchiyal Lake is situated at a distance of 6 kilometers from the center of the city. Jhatingri, located at a distance of 12 kilometers from the city of Jogindernagar, reveals a spectacular view of the imposing mountain ranges covered by the wooded deodar forest. The ruinous remains of the summer palace of the rulers of Mandi are placed in the region. The tourists may also visit the region of Baijnath which has a sacred temple dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva who appears as Vaidyanath. The temple structure was constructed in the year 804.
