Chandigarh is a Union Territory in India which serves as the capital for the states of Punjab and Haryana.
The city is popular for being the first planned city in India after independence and was designed by the Swiss born, French architect Le Corbusier and is well known for its urban design. The name Chandigarh means "The Fort of Chandi" and the city gets its name from an ancient temple called Chandi Mandir, which is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Chandi, near the city. Chandigarh was also reported to be the cleanest city in India in 2010, by a national government study.

Administration of Chandigarh: The administrative control of Chandigarh lies under the Ministry of Home Affairs. A Deputy Commissioner, an officer belonging to the Indian Administrative Services is responsible for general administration in Chandigarh. A senior Superintendent of Police, an officer from the Indian Police Service is responsible for the maintaining law and order in the area. The Deputy Conservator of Forests, an official from the Indian Forest Service is responsible for the management of forest and wildlife. A Member Secretary from Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee is responsible for pollution control in Chandigarh.

Tourism in Chandigarh: Chandigarh is one of India's most well planned cities and has a lot of interesting tourist attractions. A few popular tourist attractions in Chandigarh are The Rock Garden, built by Nek Chand, this is a garden which contains art which has been fashioned out of urban waste and is an absolute treat. Other interesting places in Chandigarh are the Open Hand Monument, the Capitol Complex, The Rose Garden and Sukhna Lake among others.
