Harekrushna Mahtab State Library


Harekrushna Mahtab State Library is the leading public library in Bhubaneswar and was initially known as Gandhi Bhawan. It was set up in 1967; renamed in 1987 after the founder of modern Orissa, Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab.

The campus of Harekrushna Mahtab State Library is very large. The main building is a four storeyed spread across 70,000 square feet of land. Harekrushna Mahtab State Library operates from 8am to 8pm on all working days including Sundays in two shifts. Monday is a holiday while on second Saturday library works from 10 am to 5 pm.

Harekrushna Mahtab State Library is a reference and research library and so no books or other materials should be used outside its premises. Harekrushna Mahtab State Library in Bhubaneswar offers the following facilities to its members :

  • Reprography : This section allows you photocopying facility at a nominal charge of 70 paise per copy.
  • Canteen : This offers you some light snacks so as to add pleasure to your reading.
  • Property Counter : You can also call it your baggage counter. This department takes care of your belongings by the time you are absorbed into your studies.
  • Cycle Shed : This is a store house for your two wheelers.
