B.C.M. College Kottayam boasts of imparting quality education to the students since it was founded in the year 1955. The college is the brainchild of His Excellency Bishop Thomas Tharayil. The college started functioning with 55 students under the able guidance of Bishop Tharayil. 'Sapentia Et Gratia' is the motto of the college, which says that wisdom and grace are the two important qualities. In contemporary times B.C.M. College is among the best women colleges of Kerala. The college offers regular and graduate courses in the fields of arts, science and commerce.

The CMS College was established in the year 1817 by the Church Missionary Society of England and is the oldest college in South India. The college houses about 2044 students and employs about 76 ministerial staff and 95 faculty members and is registered under the Mahatma Gandhi University.

Kottayam Medical College, Kottayam is one of the reputed medical colleges of Kerala. Students seeking admission in this medical college have to undergo an intense competitive examination in order to get selected. Special fellowships are also offered in the field of Surgery, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Nephrology, Otorhinolaryngology and Social and Preventive Medicine. Apart from these, nursing courses are also offered by this medical college of repute.
