Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya is one of the most important centers of education that are located in the city of Puri in Orissa. In fact, the Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya of Puri is one of the major universities that are located in the state of Orissa.

The Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya at Puri was put up in the year 1981. This university has got the membership of The Association of Indian Universities, which is called AIU in short. This university has been acknowledged by the University Grants Commission.

One of the most important facts about the Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya in Puri is that it is the third sanskrit university in India. The government of the state of Orissa established this university. The then chief minister of Orissa, Janaki Ballav Pattnaik, helped to set up this educational institute. The university has been established to encourage further learning and research associated with the oldest language of the world, that is, Sanskrit.

One of the prime focuses of the university is research work, which has the potential of contributing immensely to the education field of the entire state. One of its important research projects is the 'Contribution of Orissa to Sanskrit Literature'.
