Birla Planetarium


The Birla Planetarium is an educational as well as a fun center in the city of Secunderabad. It offers a lot of information on the universe coupled with a brilliant atmosphere. The visitors are sure to have an exciting time once they are inside this planetarium.

Birla Planetarium is one of the Secunderabad tourist attractions, which experiences heavy footfall throughout the year. It is a dome-shaped spectacular piece of architecture that is dedicated to the study of the planetary world. It was inaugurated in 1985 by N.T. Rama Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and opened to the public at the same year.

Why Visit the Planetarium?



The visitors are wonder struck by the awesome shows arranged by the planetarium that borders on reality. The open sky and the shining stars create an atmosphere amidst which the shows unfurl the mysteries of the universe. The visual, coupled with sound effects, build an amazing atmosphere under which the visitors watch the activities of the heavenly bodies. There are regular shows held at the planetarium in English and Telugu, which reveals various aspects about UFOs, comets, Hubble Space Telescope and eclipses. The show also displays the very recent collision of the Titans. The visitors are thrilled at their experience, which gives them the feeling of being in space.

Dinosorium is the latest incorporation to the Birla Planetarium. A 160 million years old skeleton of "Kotasaurus Yamanpalleinsis" is displayed at this portion of the planetarium. There is an interactive science hall where visitors can participate and gather hands on experience in scientific experiments.

The Birla Planetarium of Secunderabad is educative and entertaining since it discloses a lot of facts about the universe and other heavenly bodies. Therefore, it is a nice place for kids since it would be a fun learning for them. There is also a roof top restaurant with a multi cuisine menu.

The best time to visit Birla Planetarium

Birla Planetarium is open through out the year except on the last Thursday of every month. The show entitled "Mars- The Final Frontier" is held thrice a day in English and in Telugu.
