Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar



The Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar, is a self-governing institution of the Orissa Government. Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar was established in 1986 and dedicated to the cause of Odissi dance and music in the state of Orissa. Today, Odissi Research Center of Bhubaneswar is involved in doing research works on a vast number of aspects of the rich tradition and culture of Orissa.

The Bhubaneswar Odissi Research Center is a wing of Odissi Research of the Government of Orissa and gives intensive training to the students. Every year large number of students comes from different parts of India to enroll themselves in the Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar. The most eminent gurus of the Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar since its inception includes Kelucharan Mohapatra, Markandeya Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar Mishra, Kashinath Puja Panda, Balakrishna Das, Gopal Chandra Panda and so on. Numerous research works have been done by the gurus of the Odissi Research Center of Bhubaneswar to include innovative techniques in the Odissi dance and music.

Apart from the main center in the capital, the Odissi Research Center in Bhubaneswar has a number of branches in other districts of Orissa like Berhampur, Sambalpur, Puri and Rourkela. Odissi Research Center of Bhubaneswar is a recognized center of the well known Utkal University of Orissa. Kumkum Mohanty, a senior Odissi dancer of India and the winner of the the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award was made the chief executive of the Odissi Research Center of Bhubaneswar by the Government of Orissa just after it was founded.
