Shri Badrinath Temple
The Shri Badrinath temple has seen many renovations. This had been carried out because the damages caused to it by the avalances. The current temple had been built by the king of Garhwal only a century ago. The mighty Nar and the Narayan Parbat entice the temple and adds further divinity to its ambience. The tank of hot water or the Tapt Kund is a boon given by mother nature to the pilgrims who visit Badrinath.
The other hot water tanks in the adjoining areas are the Narad Kund and the Surya Kund. The shrine of Lord Badri-vishal is constructed out Black Shaligram, and is seated in a serious meditative posture. The image of the lord is seen in Padmasan pose, and has four arms. The temple building is divided into three different parts. The lord has been seated at the innermost area called the Garvagriha. A canopy was covered with gold sheets. This was offered to the Lord of the temple by Queen Ahilyabai.
The god is worshiped in this temple by Brahmins from Kerala. The devotees usually bathe in the Tapt Kund prior to having Darshan of the lord. This holy dip purifies their mind and body, and it is believed that thus the blessing of the lord is better gained.
