Mathura to Vrindavan


Mathura to Vrindavan is one of the interesting weekend trips from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. A number of legends are associated with Vrindavan. It is very popular among the Hindus as it is believed that Lord Krishna visited the place and played with his friends. Some of the temples and holy places of Vrindavan are as follows:
  • The Madan Mohan Temple is the oldest temple in Vrindavan that was constructed by Kapur Ram Das of Multan.

  • The Govind Deo Temple in Vrindavan was built by the general of Mughal emperor Akbar, Raja Man Singh in 1590.

  • The Shahji Temple is famous for its architectural splendor with twelve spiral columns, chandeliers made of Belgian glass and exquisite paintings.



  • Sri Radha Raman Mandir was built around 1542 and the saligram deity of Krishna and Radharani are worshipped in the temple.

  • The Rangaji Temple was constructed in the south Indian style and Ranganatha is depicted in resting posture on the coils of Seshanaga.

  • The Jaipur Temple was built in honor of Shri Radha Madhava by Sawai Madho Singh II of Jaipur in 1917.

  • The Sri Krishna-Balrama Temple was built by the ISKCON. The temple has the idol of Krishna and Balaram, accompanied by Radha-Shyamasundar and Gaura-Nitai.

  • The Radha Damodar Mandir is dedicated to Radha and Damodar. The temple is established in 1542 by Srila Jiva Goswami.

  • The Banke-Bihari Temple is one of the most popular shrine at Vrindavan.
Some of the other temples and places to visit in the village include Meera-Bai Temple, Jugal Kishore Temple, Lal Babu Temple, Kesi Ghat, Sriji Temple, Kaliya Ghat, Kusuma Sarovar, Seva Kunj, Raj Ghat, Chira Ghat, Raman Reti, Varaha Ghat and Imli Tal.
