About Nashik City
Nashik is a metro city, administrative headquarter of the Nashik District and Nashik Division in Maharashtra. The city is also called as the wine capital of India because of the largest number of wineries it has in entire India.
Geography
At 2,300 ft from the mean sea level, Nashik lies in the northwest part of Maharashtra. Some of the important rivers that flow across Nashik include Godavari, Vaitarana, Bhima, Girana, Kashyapi and Darana. The city shares its borders with Jalgaon and Aurangabad to east, Thane and parts of Gujarat state are on the west, while Ahmadnagar to the south. Nashik covers land area of about 259.13 km2 (100.05 sq mi).
Climate
While being in Nashik, you can experience a relatively mild version of a tropical wet and dry climate. During summers, the maximum temperature reaches upto 38°C to 40°C, but the city becomes extremely dry. The summers last from March to mid-June. The monsoon starts from mid-June and continues till September. From October, the cool season follows the city. Winters can be experienced in the city from November to February, when the temperature during the night reaches to 10°C to 5°C and 28 °C during the day.
Places to Visit in Nashik
- Trimbakeshwar Temple: Located in Nashik, this is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This temple complex is also famous for being the source of the Godavari river.
- Panchavati: It is basically a pilgrimage site. It is also the place where Kumbha Mela is held. There are many tourist attractions in the Panchavati complex, which include Tapovan, Ramkund, Naroshankar Temple and Sundarnarayan Temple.
- Sita Gumpha Caves: This is a pilgrimage spot. It is believed taht Sita expressed her devotion for Lord Shiva here.
- Sula Vineyard: It is the most popular vineyard of Nashik which produces premium grapes wines.
