Sited in Chavkkad Taluk where the renowned Shree Krishna Temple stands tall, Guruvayur enshrines the Lord Krishna. Legend has it that the deity was ensconced by none other that Devaguru - Brahaspathi and Vayu Bhagavan in the presence of Parasurama. The temple is very stringent in its regulations and only Hindus are allowed to enter its holy sanctums.

The temple being a very popular tourist attraction is frequented by myriads of tourists throughout the year. The temple is sited at a distance of 29 km west of Thrissur and there are numerous buses and trains that regularly ply passengers to the the holy shrine.

Another talking point of the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple are the grand celebrations of the Ashtami Rohini that takes place between the months of August and September. The Sukla Paksha Ekadasi that is celebrated in the months of November and December and the Vishu Kani whose annual celebrations commence between April and May are the other eminent festivals that are celebrated with pomp and grandeur. However, the biggest crowd puller remains the 10 long gala festal activities of the Utsavam that is celebrated during the spring months of February and March. Of all these festivities, the Ekadasi that falls between the ten day long Utsavam is the most popular and sacred ceremony.
