Infrastructure Tinsukia is accessible from almost all the major cities of India by air, road and railways. However, Tinsukia suffers from certain infrastructural inadequacies like poor road condition, occurrence of flood and insufficient power supply.
Demography Tinsukia has a total population of 11,50,146,with male population of 6,02,515 and female population of 5,47,631(as per 2001 census).The literacy rate is 63.28% and the sex ratio (no. of female per 1000 male) is 909.
Economy Tinsukia district has the oldest oil refinery in Digboi, which is also the headquarter of Assam Division of Indian Oil Corporation. Margherita and Ledo are famous for open cast coal mining. Tinsukia also produces some amount of tea, citrus fruits and paddy and also has rich forest reserves.
Tourist Attractions The major tourist spot of Tinsukia is the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park where one can see rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.
Educational Institutes So far Tinsukia cannot boast of any important educational institution. However, the Tinsukia Educational District Management has decided to start "Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan" to educate all the underprivileged people of the state.
Tinsukia is usually known as the oil-hub of India with large reserves of oil.With better infrastructural facilities, it has the potential to become one of the industrially developed district of the state.
